Stefanos Tsitsipas vs James Duckworth ATP Almaty Tips, Prediction & Live Stream - Tsitsipas to advance into semis

Stefanos Tsitsipas is expected to advance to the ATP Almaty Open semi-finals, backed by a strong record against lower-ranked players and recent solid form. James Duckworth, however, thrives in Almaty and recently served 17 aces in his straight sets win over Luciano Darderi. While Duckworth has struggled historically in ATP quarter-finals, his performance this week suggests he could push Tsitsipas and possibly snatch a set. The main conclusion: Tsitsipas is favored to win, but Duckworth can keep it competitive and take the match beyond 20.5 games.

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs James Duckworth ATP Almaty Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Stefanos Tsitsipas has won 23 of 27 matches vs players outside the top 50 this season and is tipped to advance into the Almaty Open semi-finals - but James Duckworth loves the conditions at this tournament and can make this match competitive on Friday.

Tsitsipas is the deserved favourite and most likely books his spot in the semi-finals.

The Greek has been in resurgent form over the last couple of months, going 19-7 since July and registering a 11-1 record vs 50+ ranked players during that period.

Duckworth meanwhile is into the Almaty Open quarter-finals for the second straight year. The Aussie veteran thrives in Almaty and is coming off a straight sets victory over Luciano Darderi, where he served 17 aces. Ducks also conquered Flavio Cobolli at this tournament last year.

I can't see Duckworth pulling off the upset here - after all, he's 4-10 in ATP quarter-finals and only has 17 top 40 victories since 2012.

But if he maintains that level of serving, Duckworth can push this match Over 20.5 total games and perhaps even snatch a set.
  • Tsitsipas is 23-4 vs 50+ ranked players this season
  • Tsitsipas has won 11 of his last 12 matches vs 50+ ranked players
  • Duckworth has won 1+ set in his last six Almaty matches
  • Duckworth has a 4-10 record in ATP quarter-finals
  • Duckworth has a 17-58 lifetime record vs top 40 players

Tsitsipas vs Duckworth Head To Head

This will be their first meeting in eight years after Tsitsipas prevailed in straight sets at Washington 2018.

Stefanos Tsitsipas Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 36-22
  • ATP Almaty Record: 2-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 39
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 3 (2021)

Tsitsipas has struggled considerably over the last few years, but he's slowly getting back to a high level and he's actually inside the top 15 this year in terms of total match wins.

If he maintains this sort of form for the remainder of 2026, he should be able to get into the seeding positions for the 2027 Australian Open.

The Greek comes into this clash having won 19 of his last 26 matches, including claiming the title in Gstaad and making the R16 of the US Open and Shanghai Masters.

Tsitsipas survived Aleksandar Kovacevic in three sets in his Almaty opener before ending the career of Kazakh veteran Mikhail Kukushkin to make the quarter-finals, easing to a 6-1 6-2 victory.

James Duckworth Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 14-20
  • ATP Almaty Record: 5-2
  • Current Ranking: No. 73
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 46 (2022)

Duckworth is the classic Aussie battler, fighting back from countless surgeries to reclaim a spot inside the top 100 this year - and he'll be determined to keep push back towards the top 50.

The 34-year-old is underrated indoors - he made the Paris Masters quarter-finals back in 2021, while he's won five of his seven matches in Almaty, backing up his run to the semi-finals last year by returning to the last eight here.

Duckworth took a set off Daniil Medvedev before falling in the final four last year and he's given himself a chance to make the semi-finals again after toppling Miomir Kecmanovic and Darderi in straight sets this week.

It was an excellent serving display from Duckworth against Darderi, winning 44/50 points behind his first delivery in the 7-5 7-6(7) triumph.
