The four-year-old produced an encouraging third-place finish over 1200m on Good ground, settling off the speed before working home to finish just over a length behind the winner.

Although the latest performance came on a firmer surface, Vabuigai has also demonstrated her effectiveness in rain-affected conditions, recording two third-place finishes on Soft ground during her previous preparation.

The drop in distance should pose no concerns, with the mare having finished in the first three twice over 1100m, while barrier three represents a significant improvement on the wide draw she encountered first-up.

Anthony Darmanin reunites with Vabuigai, and with the benefit of that recent outing, a favourable barrier and proven form under the expected conditions, she looks well placed to break through at her seventh attempt.

Launceston Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 6 Sounds Of Peace

Previously trained by Ciaron Maher, Sounds Of Peace changed hands for just $5,000 at auction earlier this year, with the lightly raced mare having clearly encountered setbacks before making her race-day debut.

The daughter of Grunt showed encouraging ability in her trials ahead of that first appearance at Launceston earlier this month, where she produced a promising runner-up finish in a 1400m maiden.

Racing prominently throughout on a Good 4 surface, Sounds Of Peace was beaten less than half a length, with the third placegetter subsequently winning at Launceston last week to provide a useful endorsement of the form.

There is little to suggest the forecast softer conditions will pose a significant problem, while the mare represents a stable with a strong record at the venue and should have derived considerable benefit from her initial race-day experience.

Barrier eight presents a slight challenge, but with natural improvement expected at her second appearance and encouraging form behind her, Sounds Of Peace looks capable of overcoming the draw and securing a maiden victory.

Launceston Value Bet - Race 6 No. 9 Within Sight

Three career victories at Launceston underline Within Sight's affinity for the venue, including a Class 2 success over 1200m just under a year ago, making the John Blacker-trained mare an interesting contender at attractive odds.

Although the six-year-old has been unable to add to her winning tally since, she has produced several competitive performances in defeat, most recently finishing runner-up in a Benchmark 68 handicap at Launceston two weeks ago.

That latest appearance came over 1400m on Good ground, with the daughter of Shamoline Warrior beaten less than half a length after jumping from an inside barrier and enjoying an economical passage.

A similarly favourable draw should allow Within Sight to settle comfortably behind the speed on Friday night, while any rain-affected conditions will hold no concerns given she has previously recorded a victory on Soft ground.

With a favourable racing weight, proven course form and the benefit of a strong recent performance, Within Sight looks capable of finishing over the top of her rivals and returning to winning form at a generous price.
