Jovic toppled Shnaider in three sets at the start of the year in Dubai and she can double down in Ningbo here.

There's not much between the pair - quite literally, Jovic is ranked No. 12 and Shnaider is No. 13. Both players are still in contention to make the WTA Finals as an alternate, so there's a bit of added motivation too.

But I think Jovic has played better in Ningbo this week. She was clinical in a straight sets win over Jasmine Paolini in the previous round and when she gets to this stage of a tournament, she usually advances (5-1 in quarter-finals this year).

Shnaider has been somewhat fortunate to make it this far - Yulia Putintseva should have close out both sets against her in the first round, while she has been vulnerable on serve, conceding 22 break points across her four sets.

Jovic is a great returner and she also has a great record against lefties. The American flourished in this matchup in Dubai and she's playing better tennis now - take Jovic for the win again in a match that features Over 21.5 games.

Jovic has done an excellent job of establishing herself on the main tour this year, improving her ranking from No. 35 to being on the cusp of the top 10.

The 18-year-old has won 42 matches (28 on hardcourt) and is looking to finish the year strongly.

It's been a consistent last couple of months on hardcourt, with Jovic defending her title in Guadalajara and reaching the R16 at the US Open, Beijing and Wuhan.

Jovic had a bye in her Ningbo opener and was untroubled against former top five player Jasmine Paolini in the second round, easing to a 6-4 6-3 win, breaking the Italian six times and winning over 50 per cent of points behind Paolini's first serve.

Shnaider also made the semi-finals of Washington and quarter-finals of Toronto and last week in Wuhan, registering a 15-6 record since transitioning back to hardcourt.

The 22-year-old enjoys playing in Ningbo - she made the final in 2023 and the semi-finals last year.

Shnaider is one win away from a third semi-final appearance in Ningbo after taking out Yulia Putintseva (7-5 7-6(4)) and Alexandra Eala (7-5 6-4).
