The upcoming third match in the Australia vs West Indies Test Series presents unique challenges for the Australians, given it will be their first day-night test with the pink Dukes ball on opposition soil. Despite having a 2-0 series lead, Australia faces formidable opponents in the West Indies, who are showing a promising form. Players like Brandon King and Shamar Joseph are expected to make notable impacts, with solid batting and formidable bowling, respectively, giving the Windies a fighting chance for an upset.

Australia vs West Indies Test Series Match 3 Tips

It is a whole new game for Australia with unprecedented challenges heading into Game 3 of the series, so I am making the bold move and picking the underdog Windies to get a shock result.

It will be the first day-night test match that the Australians will play on enemy soil and also with a new brand of pink Dukes ball instead of the Kookaburra that they have played with earlier back home in Australia. A few sessions in the nets will not be enough to adjust, making it even more difficult to bat on the Kingston pitch.

Brandon King has been the pick of the West Indies batsmen topping the scorecard with 75 runs in the first innings of Match Two. Still finding his feet in the test squad with this being his first series in the long form, this “no pressure” situation could be just what the middle-order batsman needs to spark his test career.

Shamar Joseph did it again, backing up the 9 wickets he took in the first match of the series by collecting another 5 in the second. Rode the 4-5 ladder in the second test and will not be breaking a winning concept in this one.

Head to Head

Series Played: 29
Australia: 18
West Indies: 8
Draw: 3

  • Australia won the second match of the series by 133 runs.
  • Australia lead the current series 2-0
  • The most recent series in Australia in January 2024 ended in a 1-1 draw.
  • Australia have won 4 of the last 5 Test series against the West Indies.

Australia Form

Sometimes it wasn’t pretty but the Australian did what they needed to do to clinch the series and retain the Frank Worrell Trophy with an unassailable 2-0 series lead heading into the final match.

Travis Head (29 + 39 runs) and Alex Carey (63 + 30 runs) continued their decent form on another tough wicket for the batsmen but it was the return of Steve Smith that swung the game into the visitors favour, in the second innings at least. After missing the first test Smith returned with just 3 runs at his first at bat, however, an adjustment to his grip to accommodate his broken thumb saw him top the scorecard with 71 runs in the second inning, with Australia taking back control of the match.

The Aussie big 4 were phenomenal with the ball again, terrorizing the West Indies batsmen, giving their team a 33-run lead heading into the second innings. With a chase of 276 to protect, The quicks did the work with Mitch Starc adding 3 wickets to single he picked up in the first while Nathan Lyon claimed 6 wickets for the match.

Australia Squad

West Indies Form

It was another tough few days at the office for the Windies in Grenada despite showing promise in the first innings.

Alzarri Joseph took another 4 Australian wickets, keeping the visitors to a modest score of 286 runs. However Despite a solid opening innings from John Campbell (40 runs) and a match high of 75 runs for Brandon King, the West Indies still trailed by 33 runs heading into the second innings.

Shamar Joseph then did the damage in the second with 4 wickets giving his team a chance to fight back, however, the Aussie bowling attack was too strong with the 34 runs from captain Roston Chase the highest of the West Indies batsman.

West Indies Squad

Roston Chase (c), Jomel Warrican (vc), Kevlon Anderson, Kraigg Brathwaite, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Justin Greaves, Shai Hope, Tevin Imlach, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Johann Layne, Mikyle Louis, Anderson Phillip, Jayden Seales
