Randwick Tips July 25

Happy Retirement Lynne McLean Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Randwick Roughie - Race 4 No. 6 Aisle Two

While perhaps outclassed and at the end of her prep irrespective, Aisle Two also didn't run out a strong 2000m when rounding out her last campaign in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes.

But her previous season form was encouraging, having taken sharp improvement from an October 13 breakthrough before a spell to resume with a Class 1 win at Kembla Grange on January 28.

After being unlucky in a metro BM64 second-up at Canterbury, she bounced back to claim a Rosehill BM72 third-up on February 25 when defeating the very handy Soverato, a filly who was subsequently Group 3 placed and also competitive in both the Australian and Queensland Oaks over autumn and early winter.

The Price-trained galloper was competitive in the Group 3 Kembla Grange Classic on March 13 and wasn't looking for more ground than a mile in that attempt, while she worked well via a Rosehill trial on June 30.

Jockey Adam Hyeronimus has barrier one at his disposal on Saturday, and that draw should ensure Aisle Two gets every chance.

Randwick Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 13 Horizons

There isn't a need to rush into Horizons in early betting, as it'll be a track watch over the next few days for this Autumn Sun mare.

She clearly doesn't handle testing ground, which was evident a fortnight ago here when finishing fifth of 10 in a similar event on a Heavy 9, while drying conditions will be in her favour, with the track currently in the Soft 7 range and an upgrade or two bringing her right into contention.

In-form Zac Lloyd takes the reins aboard this hard-fit four-year-old, who has now had four runs this prep, with the last two over this track-and-trip, and her performance two starts back on June 20 was full of merit when sticking on well for third after leading and being pressured rounding the turn.

The map is also in her favour this time around, with Horizons looking the logical leader, which should allow Lloyd to cross and give her every chance up on the speed.

She comfortably beat subsequent Group 1 winner Attica last prep, so she's classy when right and also saluted over further later in the spring.

Randwick Favourite - Race 6 No. 11 Trapalanda

He's been costly for punters since recording an Australian breakthrough third-up last winter.

However, Trapalanda has still been mostly thereabouts in subsequent appearances, some of those in deeper contests than he faces on Saturday, where the five-year-old has the services of Zac Lloyd, with the senior hoop jumping aboard as he drops 3kg in the weights for this BM78 assignment.

The gelding returned with a runner-up finish as a beaten favourite at Warwick Farm on June 24, where race fitness and a 3kg weight advantage proved crucial for the winner, who also came off his back at the top of the straight.

Following that, he had absolutely no luck at Canterbury last time out when ridden quieter and, in a muddling affair, Trapalanda was held up in traffic and couldn't get out to build momentum when required.

On paper, he looks to have found the right race, especially with the option to settle closer from a low draw, and while he's had his chances, the five-year-old is clearly going well and could be peaking on Saturday.

ATC Thank You Trainers Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Randwick Value Bet - Race 8 No. 2 Poison Chalice

They clearly aren't worried about Poison Chalice carrying weight, as he was lumped with 62kg in his second run for Joe Pride when contesting a BM88 a fortnight ago, and that was an improved performance.

He tracked the speed with a favourable run but simply looked to be a gallop short there, staying at seven furlongs second-up.

It was a more encouraging performance after a stable debut that was a bit of a head-scratcher, but we know how well Joe Pride does with these tried horses, and many of these miler types improve as a campaign wears on.

Poison Chalice has certainly got the class, although he was frustrating for punters and connections when prepared by Paul Preusker, having produced a string of really competitive mile performances in stronger company than he meets here.

The pick of those was perhaps an unlucky fifth in the Group 2 Crystal Mile, while last campaign he placed over this journey behind Apulia and Detonator Jack at Listed level when heavily supported in the market.

Elite Sand And Soil Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Randwick Best Bet - Race 9 No. 5 Ice Kool

Connections opted to scratch Ice Kool due to the testing ground at Rosehill last Saturday, and they'll likely be rewarded for that decision, with upgrades predicted from the current Soft 7 reading at Randwick.

The talented sprinter remains at the circuit where he's unbeaten, which includes an 1100m success along with a pair of 1000m BM78 victories to open his winter campaign.

He was more workmanlike in his latest win, although he did cover ground while carrying 3.5kg more, and the form has stood up from that June 20 event, which has already produced four subsequent winners.

While this is technically a rise in grade, he doesn't face a particularly deep off-season BM88.

Big Red Tequila shares the second line of betting with Hawker Hall, although the former has been comfortably accounted for by Ice Kool twice this campaign, while Hawker Hall may be his biggest threat off strong trials and with the services of champion jockey James McDonald, who was aboard for his dominant win in January.
