Manchester City begin their EFL Cup defense against Norwich at the Etihad. City are expected to rotate their squad but still hold a significant edge, having won the last three head-to-heads and boasting an impressive EFL Cup record. Norwich, despite inconsistent league form, have been scoring regularly and Mo Toure stands out as a threat up front. The recommendation is to back over 3.5 goals and Norwich to score, even in defeat. Man City vs Norwich EFL Cup Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Over 3.5 goals and Norwich to score in defeat are the betting angles as Man City launch their EFL Cup trophy defence on Thursday night at the Etihad, with value on Socceroos striker Mo Toure registering another goal involvement after a blistering start to the season.

Obviously City won't be fielding their strongest side from the start in this one, but even their bench players should have far too much class for Championship side Norwich, who have gone 16 games without a clean sheet.

City have won the EFL Cup seven times over the last 13 years, including conquering Arsenal in last season's final, so this is a competition they do take seriously enough.

Enzo Maresca's side have made a strong start to the season and will want to continue their winning momentum here, so I'm expecting the goals to flow.

However, City's defence still looks somewhat shaky and Norwich have the firepower up front to snatch a consolation goal.

Toure has been on fire since arriving at Norwich midway through last season, producing 19 goal involvements in as many games. The Australian striker should start this clash and will be eager to make an impact again.
  • City have won their last five games
  • City have seen both teams score in seven of their last 10 home games
  • Over 3.5 goals has landed in the last four meetings between the teams
  • Norwich have seen Over 3.5 goals in two of their last three games
  • Norwich have scored 13 goals in their last five games
  • Mo Toure has registered 19 goal involvements in 19 games in all comps for Norwich (15 goals, 4 assists)

Man City vs Norwich Head To Head

Man City hold a 39-10 H2H advantage over Norwich, with 23 draws. City have won the last three meetings, scoring 15 goals in the process.

Man City Form Analysis

It's been a great start to the season for City and new manager Maresca.

After a loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield, City have put together a five-game winning streak in all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in their last three outings.

City began the Premier League campaign with three straight wins over Bournemouth (2-1), Crystal Palace (4-1) and Coventry (1-0) before an opening 2-0 victory away to FC Porto in the Champions League.

A memorable derby triumph over rivals Man United at Old Trafford followed this past weekend, with a 10-man City outfit edging out a 1-0 win courtesy of a controversial goal to Erling Haaland after Enzo Fernandez was later ruled to have interfered with play from an offside position.

Man City Team News

Phil Foden saw red against United for lashing out at Bruno Fernandes and is suspended for this one, while Jeremy Doku remains sidelined with injury and shouldn't be risked here.

Maresca will field a heavily rotated side, which means the likes of Geronimo Rulli, Allan, Vitor Reis, Rico Lewis, Mateo Kovacic, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Iliman Ndiaye could all feature from the start.

Man City Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Geronimo Rulli; Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, Ruben Dias, Rico Lewis; Mateo Kovacic, Ayyoub Bouaddi; Elias Allan, Iliman Ndiaye, Rayan Ait-Nouri; Antoine Semenyo

Norwich Form Analysis

Bit of an up-and-down start to the English Championship season for Norwich, who languish in 14th spot on the ladder, picking up nine points from their seven games.

However, it was a tough draw to begin the campaign as Norwich went down to promotion hopefuls West Brom and Millwall. The Canaries opened their account with a brilliant 4-1 demolition of Burnley and come into this clash having won two of their last three games, defeating Sheffield United 3-1 and Birmingham 2-1.

Philippe Clement's side couldn't make it three wins on the trot at the weekend, going down in a 4-3 thriller to Middlesbrough. Norwich also advanced into this EFL Cup third round tie by beating Cardiff 2-1 on the road.

Norwich Team News

Gabriel Forsyth (knee), Mirko Topic (knee), Ali Ahmed (knee) and Lucien Mahovo (knee) are all sidelined with injury for this one.

Toure should lead the line again, with the Socceroos star already racking up five goals and an assist in seven games for the Canaries this season.

Norwich Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Vladan Kovacevic; Kellen Fisher, Ruairi McConville, Jose Cordoba, Ben Chrisene; Kenny McLean, Pelle Mattsson; Andre Brooks, Anis Slimane, Anthony Musaba; Mohamed Toure

City will almost certainly be too strong, but Norwich can sneak a goal in a high-scoring affair.
