Liverpool are favored to progress in the EFL Cup against a struggling Tottenham side that has failed to score in its opening four league matches and hasn't won at Anfield since 2011. Despite a few recent setbacks, Liverpool's EFL Cup pedigree and home record make them strong favorites. Tottenham's big summer spending has yet to deliver results, putting additional pressure on manager Roberto De Zerbi. Team news, stats, and possible line-ups indicate likely Liverpool dominance, with Cody Gakpo tipped for goal involvement.

Liverpool vs Tottenham EFL Cup Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's been a nightmare start to the season for Tottenham and their troubles are set to continue into this EFL Cup third round tie against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night.

Roberto De Zerbi and Tottenham spent almost £350m in the summer transfer window, but it's certainly not paying immediate dividends.

Indeed, Spurs haven't scored a single goal in the Premier League across their opening four games. They've assembled a squad full of robins with no batman and there's nothing really to suggest they can overcome a horror record away to Liverpool here.

Tottenham have failed to win on their last 17 trips to Anfield, last doing so in 2011.

Liverpool have their own struggles as well at the moment, but they are in much better shape than their opponents.

Andoni Iraola should take this game fairly seriously after a dour 0-0 stalemate with Fulham on the weekend and won't want another setback at Anfield.

Small stakes as it's the EFL Cup, but the Reds are backed to win inside 90 minutes and there's value on only one team scoring given Spurs' attacking woes. Cody Gakpo could be set for a start in a likely rotated squad and looks a decent shout for a goal involvement.
  • Liverpool have won four of their last five home games vs Tottenham
  • Liverpool are unbeaten at Anfield vs Tottenham in their last 17 games dating back to 2011
  • Tottenham have failed to score in their opening four EPL games
  • Liverpool have seen BTTS - No in two of their last three games
  • Cody Gakpo has four goals/assists in four EPL games this season

Liverpool vs Tottenham Head To Head

Liverpool hold a 94-50 advantage in this matchup, with 45 draws. As mentioned, the Reds haven't lost to Spurs at Anfield since 2011.

Liverpool Form Analysis

It's hasn't been an overly convincing start to the season for Liverpool.

Iraola's side needed a stoppage time penalty to salvage a 2-2 draw with Newcastle before twice coming from behind to secure the same score against Nottingham Forest at home.

Liverpool bounced back with a 2-0 victory away to Ipswich before again coming from behind to topple Atletico Madrid in their Champions League opener.

However, the Reds struggled again at home to Fulham on the weekend, failing to create any real meaningful opportunities in the final third and being forced to settle for a 0-0 stalemate.

Liverpool have reached the EFL Cup final in three of the last five years, so they have taken this competition pretty seriously in recent times.

Liverpool Team News

Hugo Ekitike, Federico Chiesa, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni all remain sidelined for Liverpool.

We can expect some changes for the EFL Cup, with Cody Gakpo an option to start up front, while Wataru Endo could feature in his first game of the season.

Liverpool Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Giorgi Mamardashvili; Jeremie Frimpong, Ronald Araujo, Wataru Endo, Konstantinos Tsimikas; Alexis MacAllister, Trey Nyoni; Rio Ngumoha, Lewis Koumas, Victor Munoz; Cody Gakpo

Tottenham Form Analysis

Shocking start to the season for Spurs and the pressure is already starting to mount on new boss Roberto De Zerbi.

After launching the Premier League campaign with back-to-back defeats against Brentford (3-0) and Newcastle (2-0), Tottenham have since registered consecutive 0-0 draws with Forest and Everton.

As such, Spurs are languishing in the unfortunately familiar position of 17th and with zero goals to show from their big-spending summer window.

However, Tottenham did click in attack in their second round EFL Cup win over Charlton, prevailing by a 5-1 score as Mikey Moore, Dominic Solanke, Kevin Danso, Savio and Ben Davies found the back of the net.

Tottenham Team News

De Zerbi needs a boost and should start a strong team for this one.

Andy Robertson returns to Anfield for the first time and should start at left back.

Pedro Porro missed last weekend's draw with Everton and likely won't be risked here.

Mykhailo Mudryk, Wilson Odobert, Xavi Simons and Dejan Kulusevski all remain sidelined.

Tottenham Possible Startting XI (4-2-3-1): Martin Dubravka; Archie Gray, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marco Senesi, Ben Davies; Lucas Bergvall, Sandro Tonali; Mohammed Kudus, Conor Gallagher, Savio; Dominic Solanke
