Mornington Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 4 Top Conti
Top Conti produced his best result from four career starts when finishing third over this track-and-trip on debut for Clayton Douglas.
Racing on a Soft 6, the gelding settled on speed and was beaten less than two lengths in a 12-runner maiden.
The firmer ground expected on Thursday should pose no issue, with his only previous run on a sound surface coming in Group 2 company at Caulfield on debut.
The four-year-old has shown enough gate speed in the past to offset barrier nine, while the booking of Ethan Brown is another positive.
Brown boasts four wins from six rides at Mornington in 2026, a strike rate of nearly 67%, and Top Conti looks well placed to break through.

Mornington Value Bet - Race 4 No. 6 Amawasha
Previous course form gives Amawasha plenty of appeal, with the gelding unbeaten from his only start at Mornington after winning over 3040m here in December.
That success came in a similar race and, while he has not won since, there have been several solid performances in defeat, including his latest effort at Warrnambool.
Competing at Benchmark 62 level over 2350m, the son of Dundeel stuck to the inside and went down by only half a length on a Heavy 8.
The return to firmer ground is a positive given both of his career wins have come on Good tracks, while the rise in distance also looks suitable.
Luke Cartwright's mount gets in with a favourable weight and, with the blinkers coming off, Amawasha rates as a value chance to remain unbeaten at Mornington.
The Big Screen Company Handicap Tips (Race 6)
Mornington Roughie - Race 6 No. 11 Lonstar
Back-to-back seconds over this distance give Lonstar enough recent form to warrant respect at a bigger price.
The latest came at Echuca at the end of last month, where he was beaten a length in a Benchmark 56 on Soft ground after jumping from an inside alley.
That form has already received some support, with the sixth placegetter winning subsequently, while Lonstar has also produced competitive efforts at this higher level previously.
Good ground presents no concern given his only career victory came on a sound surface at Ballarat in February, and barrier seven should be manageable given his tactical versatility.
This will be only his third start for Anthony and Sam Freedman, and with Daniel Stackhouse taking the ride, Lonstar looks capable of surprising some better-fancied rivals.

Mornington Best Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Mr Sioux
Ciaron Maher has enjoyed a strong record at Mornington throughout 2026, and his sole runner on Thursday's card arrives off a maiden victory at Warrnambool.
Mr Sioux justified $1.45 favouritism on a Heavy track over 1400m, holding on by half a length after having already shown plenty of ability on debut.
That first appearance came over 1300m at Bendigo, where the three-year-old finished strongly for second before progressing to his breakthrough win three weeks later.
The runner-up from his Warrnambool maiden has since won, adding further substance to the form, while the switch to firmer ground is unlikely to pose any issue.
Still the least exposed runner in the field after just two starts, Mr Sioux should have further improvement to come and looks capable of making the successful transition to winner's grade.
