There was enough to like about Dune Shift’s debut on a wet track at Murwillumbah last month to suggest he can improve sharply at start two.
Racing over 1200m, the gelding was ridden with restraint and caught the eye late when staying on nicely for fifth in the nine-runner maiden, beaten just over two-and-a-half lengths.
The son of Odyssey Moon started at big odds on that occasion, with his only previous trial appearance coming for his former trainer back in October last year.
Emma Fouchard’s representative should take natural improvement from that first race-day experience, while the rise in distance looks another positive.
Although he steps to metropolitan company for the first time, barrier five gives him a good starting point and, with winkers applied, Dune Shift could be capable of causing an upset.

Doomben Best Bet - Race 4 No. 6 Rosso Levanto
Rosso Levanto has been in excellent form this preparation, winning two of her three starts and finishing a close third in the other.
That sole defeat came over 1650m at Doomben early last month, where the six-year-old was beaten only half a length before making amends at Ipswich.
She stepped to 1980m there and scored by just over a length, with the extra distance appearing to suit and the mare also recording her second career win on Soft ground.
Rosso Levanto raced on speed in that latest victory but has also performed well when ridden with more restraint, giving her tactical versatility from barrier eight.
Bella Youngberry rode a treble at Doomben on Saturday and now takes the reins, with Rosso Levanto looking well placed to continue her strong preparation.

Doomben Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 1 Global Eclipse
A promising first campaign in New South Wales saw Global Eclipse show plenty of ability for Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr before joining the Chris and Corey Munce stable.
The five-year-old resumed at Ipswich two weeks ago with a good second over 1350m, settling in midfield before finishing just under three-and-a-half lengths from the winner.
That margin does not tell the full story, with Global Eclipse finishing almost four lengths clear of the third placegetter in a race where the winner enjoyed a favourable run closer to the speed.
The son of Pierata should derive plenty of improvement from that first-up outing and the rise in distance looks in his favour.
A wide barrier is the main concern, but he has tactical versatility and, with Martin Harley aboard, Global Eclipse looks capable of going one better.

Doomben Value Bet - Race 7 No. 5 Boss Mode
Two strong 1050m trial victories at Deagon suggest Boss Mode is forward enough to produce a big run fresh for the Tony Gollan stable.
The gelding showed plenty of ability through seven starts last preparation, including a Gold Coast victory over this distance in March.
He made only two subsequent appearances before a spell, ending the campaign with a fifth at Eagle Farm in early April when beaten just under four lengths at big odds in a three-year-old handicap.
Barrier two gives Cejay Graham every chance to secure an economical run, while those lead-up trials should have Boss Mode sharp enough for Wednesday’s return.
The four-year-old will race on Soft ground for the first time since his maiden victory and, with the conditions and map both in his favour, he appeals as a value chance in the finale.
