Happy Valley Tips September 16

Big Wave Bay Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Noisy Boy

The combination of Zac Purton and Dennis Yip has been striking at 25% over the past 12 months, and the champion jockey is one-from-one aboard Noisy Boy after partnering him to a Class 3 victory at Happy Valley in just his second Hong Kong appearance.

The son of Real Steel looked capable of progressing to a higher level after backing that performance up with a Class 2 win at Sha Tin, and while he was unable to go on with it subsequently, there were still some competitive performances in stronger grade last season.

He had also shown ability in Australia before being sold to Hong Kong, with the highlight of his career there coming via a Group 2 second over 2000m.

Noisy Boy looked right up to the mark when winning a Sha Tin trial on September 1, appearing in complete control when defeating Armor Golden Eagle and Awesome Fluke, two horses who sit at least a rung or two above anything he encounters here.

Despite drawing wide, Purton may elect to be positive early and potentially take up the running, and in what looks a thin race even by Class 4 standards, Noisy Boy's ability can take him a long way.

The Community Chest Cup Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 4 No. 11 Kwai Chung Talents

A son of Toronado, Kwai Chung Talents appeared to need his first campaign last season and, although he failed to break through, there were encouraging signs as he gradually improved with racing.

Following a disappointing debut and a short freshen, the penny began to drop as the season progressed, with the four-year-old placing in two of his final three starts over this track-and-trip.

Keith Yeung was aboard for all seven runs last campaign and retains the ride for this fresh assignment, with his mount dropping further in the weights to 53.5kg.

Kwai Chung Talents also looked sharp when winning the fastest of three all-weather trials on September 2, leading throughout and appearing very forward in scoring by three lengths.

He had little luck in some earlier Happy Valley appearances, including covering ground at a big price on April 22, and in a race no stronger than what he faced last campaign, the lightly raced gelding looks capable of making further progress from barrier four.

Lido Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Happy Valley Favourite - Race 5 No. 6 Young Arrow

Douglas Whyte is well represented with six runners across Wednesday night's program, and Young Arrow shapes as one of his leading hopes with Zac Purton back aboard for his return.

Connections will be hoping for better fortune this season after the son of Showtime endured several unlucky runs when dropping back to this grade across four Happy Valley starts over this track-and-trip last campaign.

He is also better treated at the weights, having carried 61kg in each of those four appearances and now dropping to 59.5kg following a solid second in a Sha Tin trial on September 3.

Young Arrow has already shown he can carry weight over the Happy Valley 1200m, winning with 61kg in May last year in a performance that had far more merit than the narrow margin suggested after he covered ground throughout.

His overall strike rate is modest, but he has regularly been competitive in stronger company and, from a much kinder draw that should allow Purton to secure cover around midfield, he gets every opportunity to register a deserved third career victory.

Chung Hom Kok Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 6 No. 1 Dazzling Fit

From the same family as 2003 Golden Slipper winner Polar Success, Dazzling Fit has completed two trials ahead of his return and worked nicely through the line in his latest over 1200m at Sha Tin under Zac Purton, who takes the ride for David Eustace.

The gelding was last seen finishing 10th-of-14 in the Hong Kong Derby in March and, while well held there, he was far from disgraced through the lead-up races to that feature.

His best performance of the campaign came via a Class 3 victory earlier in the season, the same grade he resumes in here, and keeping him around the mile range may prove the right move after a strong 2000m appeared to test him in the Derby.

He also lacked the same finishing power in two 1800m runs immediately beforehand, although both efforts were still competitive, and the soft draw should help offset the sizeable weight impost on Wednesday.

Hymnbook is also worth including after showing enough across a mixed first Hong Kong campaign to suggest there is further upside, and with a light weight, he could be charging home late.
