Launceston Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Alpine Fury

A return to Launceston should suit Alpine Fury, who has won two of his six starts to date, including a narrow Class 1 victory over this track-and-trip last November.

The gelding has raced only twice since that success, with his latest appearance coming first-up at Hobart in June over 1100m.

Although he finished seventh in that Class 2 on a Soft 5, the son of Alpine Eagle was beaten less than two lengths and performed better than the bare result suggests.

That trip may have been on the sharp side and the rise in distance looks a positive, while he has trialled well ahead of his return from a let-up.

Glenn Stevenson’s representative draws an inside barrier and gets suitable underfoot conditions, giving Alpine Fury every chance to return a winner.

Launceston Value Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Last Tremble

Last Tremble has been racing consistently this year and arrives off consecutive third-place finishes.

The first came when beaten a length in a small-field Maiden/Class 1 over 2100m at Hobart last month, before another solid effort on the Devonport synthetic earlier this month.

She was beaten just under one-and-a-half lengths over 1880m on that occasion, and the return to turf presents no issue given the Alpine Eagle mare has previously shown an affinity for wet conditions.

The drop in distance is the main query, although she has performed with credit over this trip in the past, including a fourth at Hobart in May.

Lauryn Bingley should be able to secure a suitable run from barrier six and, with her recent consistency, Last Tremble has enough in her favour to be competitive at a price.

Launceston Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Megalita

Megalita has shown a liking for Launceston in the past, breaking through over this track-and-trip in December.

She has since added a victory on the Devonport synthetic and comes into Wednesday’s assignment off a fifth-place finish at Hobart early last month.

Racing on a wet track, the mare produced a solid effort in a 1390m contest where the two leaders filled the first two positions for much of the race, eventually finishing just over three lengths from the winner.

The conditions appeared to pose no issue in only her second appearance on Soft ground, while an inside barrier is another positive as she chases a second win over this distance.

Megalita has been freshened since that latest run and looks well placed to salute for a stable that has enjoyed a strong record at Launceston throughout 2026.
