Belmont’s Wednesday racing on September 16 features seven races and offers punters three key tips: King Of The Town (Race 5) is the best bet based on strong recent stable form, Ocean Goddess (Race 7) is tipped to go back-to-back after an impressive return, and Javelin Strike (Race 4) provides each-way value with proven versatility. The track is likely to upgrade from Soft 5, with rail out 13m. Recommendations focus on proven performers and favorable setups for value punting.

Belmont Value Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Javelin Strike

There was plenty of merit in Javelin Strike's August 20 return in a Pinjarra Class 1 that has since produced three subsequent winners.

The gelding settled off the speed and was caught wide throughout, yet still kept coming to finish fifth-of-11 despite the tough run.

He then stepped from 1300m to 1400m at Belmont last Wednesday, where he tracked the speed and performed honestly for fourth-of-11 before being outsprinted late.

The son of Sessions should be better suited rising to 1650m, while he also showed during his first campaign that he can handle a short turnaround, backing up six days from an even Belmont performance to win comfortably at Pinjarra on April 8.

Cassey Martinan's 3kg claim is retained from last week and, with further improvement likely in what looks a fairly modest affair, Javelin Strike has some each-way appeal.

Belmont Best Bet - Race 5 No. 1 King Of The Town

The market will be worth watching late with King Of The Town, who resumes without a public trial but was still racing as recently as July and should not be too far away.

The Summer Dickson stable has prepared runners successfully off similar setups, including Bondi Star, who resumed from a comparable break over a mile and rattled home for second at Northam earlier this month.

The stable has also been in excellent touch at Belmont this season, with 13 starters since the beginning of August returning five winners and a third placegetter, including victories at the past two Saturday metropolitan meetings here.

King Of The Town progressed nicely through his previous campaign, highlighted by a dominant 2000m maiden win at Pinjarra before a runner-up finish at Belmont, while his preparation ended with a fifth-of-12 at Listed level.

This looks a weak race overall, with three of the other four single-figure hopes coming through the September 2 Class 1 won by Grandad's Addiction, who was one from 26 going into that event, and on ability, the son of Flying Artie has this field covered.

Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Ocean Goddess

Ocean Goddess landed the cash for us at a good each-way price when resuming at Northam on August 27, producing the strong finish that has become a feature of her racing.

The daughter of Playing God did find the faster lanes wider on the testing surface, but it was still a very comfortable victory and came over a distance shorter than her best these days.

That Class 3 has produced some solid subsequent form, with My Jimmy winning a Class 5 at Bunbury, Run Pattie Run finishing off strongly at the same meeting and Surround Me again racing well at Belmont last Wednesday.

Ocean Goddess rises 2.5kg from that first-up win, but she returns to her own sex in a midweek Class 3, making this well within reach for a mare who could measure up in Saturday company this season.

She was successful at her most recent Belmont appearance and, at a decent price, the lightly raced six-year-old can be supported to complete the double second-up.
