Provincial references should stack up in Highway grade, but it is a form line that is often overlooked for this level.

Coming out of a Newcastle BM68 is Roses Imminente and she was specked in the market for that fresh 1350m assignment.

She made inroads from back in the field to finish third, producing the race-fastest closing sectionals.

The four-year-old put a safe margin on fourth-placed Edge Of Midnight, a galloper who had won his prior two appearances, and sixth-placed Dark Vador franked the form with a Gosford win on Thursday.

Roses Imminente had no luck via a Scone Highway attempt in May before a spell and has clearly returned well.

Randwick Favourite - Race 5 No. 6 Mortal Halo

While he has won two of three starts this campaign, with the miss being a narrow second-up defeat, Mortal Halo is not the finished product.

A raw colt, the youngster bounced back on December 7 when recording his first metropolitan victory.

A full brother and stablemate to Port Lockroy, a Group 1-winning miler, the three-year-old carries a 3.5kg weight penalty for staying in the same grade.

There is still upside and the step to 1600m on a bigger circuit could suit him more.

Of his threats, Tequisoda is progressive and arrives third-up but is up in grade off provincial placings, and the Waller trio appear covered on talent.

Randwick Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 King Pedro

This is his first time at 2400m since a sixth-place finish in this year’s New Zealand Derby.

In that Group 1, King Pedro was the only runner making any late inroads from back and wide.

The Australian debut for the O’Shea and Charlton yard was fair over 1800m at Randwick-Kensington.

After a November 1 Randwick defeat when well held, he returned to the provincials for a confidence booster and recorded a Gosford romp over 2100m.

A metro return in this grade saw him catch the eye when runner-up at Rosehill on December 7 and getting to the bigger surrounds of Randwick track is a plus.

Randwick Best Bet - Race 7 No. 10 King’s Secret

It is tougher company for King’s Secret second-up, but we often see these gallopers down in the weights produce in off-season high benchmarks.

The Joe Pride-trained sprinter has upside and an already tidy record, with four wins and four placings from nine starts.

He was completely unsuited by the race shape when resuming on November 29, where the leader kicked and held off Snack Bar, who settled in the box seat.

King’s Secret was back and wide on that occasion and peaked late.

This is a big drop with 8kg less from that first-up showing and there should be more early intent from a kinder draw.

Toyota Forklifts Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Randwick Value Bet - Race 8 No. 3 West Of Africa

He always needs some luck due to his racing pattern, however West Of Africa is very capable.

Off two good trials, the six-year-old returned on December 7 with a midfield finish and ran the fastest last 800m, 600m, and 400m of the race.

The slight benchmark increase here sees him carry 1.5kg less despite a senior rider taking over.

His last win was recorded second-up in January when successful in the Magic Millions Cup.

That Gold Coast feature ran hot, with the runner-up Charm Stone winning two of her next three starts at Group 1 level and subsequent stakes winners including Abounding, Zou Sensation, and Oughton.
