Pakenham Tips April 23

Dalton Consulting Engineers Maiden Plate Tips (Race 3)

Pakenham Favourite - Race 3 No. 5 Jetsetter Jack

Billy Egan will be keen to atone on Jetsetter Jack after settling for second as favourite at Cranbourne on April 10.

The gelding was a few pairs further back than he should have been after being shuffled back at a key stage.

Without ever threatening, he still got warm late when the race was over, finishing with the fastest closing sectionals.

It is also worth noting the winner, Fastobullet, had placed in his first four starts, and the last three of those were at metro level.

The extra 100m and bigger track are both positives, and his second-up effort followed a big return when running the fastest last 600m of the April 1 meeting at Geelong.

Designer Coolrooms Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Pakenham Best Bet - Race 6 No. 9 Alzaro

It was an interesting move to scratch from Geelong on Wednesday, where Alzaro seemingly found the right race over a little further with a slight drop in grade.

Connections instead remain at six furlongs, which is the query.

However, she has found an even weaker event, dropping from a metro BM66 into a country Class 1.

The three-year-old should also be suited by the big surrounds of Pakenham.

Both runs this campaign suggest a win is close, including an eye-catching first-up third behind the smart Oliveanotherday and a last-start effort at Sandown, where she got warm late with the fastest last 200m of an on-speed dominated race.

Duffy & Simon Lawyers Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Pakenham Roughie - Race 7 No. 9 Tolpuddle

There was enough to like about her lead-up work ahead of her race day debut for the Nick Ryan stable, including an encouraging Flemington jump-out on March 6.

She was effectively given a trial when resuming at Caulfield Heath on March 18, settling back and never getting into contention.

The second-up effort at Cranbourne was an improvement, finishing with the second-fastest last 600m, 400m and 200m of that April 10 event.

On that occasion, she was to the inside and against the momentum built out wider.

The rise to 1400m is a big plus, and with two of her four wins coming third-up, Tolpuddle shapes as a genuine improver.

The Big Screen Company Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Pakenham Value Bet - Race 8 No. 10 Simurgh

An interesting runner on Australian debut is this lightly raced import from the Hayes yard, who has been respected in early markets.

He broke through in Ireland back in September before being sold, having shown potential in his first two starts.

The four-year-old appears forward for this assignment, having completed three autumn jump-outs.

Those have included Flemington, Werribee and a longer road trip to Traralgon, where he was held up and under a tight hold.

In the Werribee hit-out, he caught the eye working home under his own steam in what was a strong heat.
