Ipswich Tips April 23

Poco Vino Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 8 Zoustrology

Zoustrology has recorded top-three finishes in four of five career starts, including both runs this preparation.

He resumed with a four-length second over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast, handling a Heavy 8 surface well when ridden cold and finishing best of those off the speed.

A similar pattern followed at Eagle Farm next time, where he settled back again and ran third over 1000m on a Soft 5.

He was beaten just under three lengths on that occasion, with Gram, who reopposes here, finishing one place behind in fourth.

A wide draw should not be an issue given recent tactics, and with the step to 1100m in his favour, the Jack Bruce and Ben Thompson combination looks well placed to strike.

Great Northern QTIS Three-Year-Old Benchmark 65 Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Contingency

Contingency showed good early promise this season, winning two of his first three starts.

Both victories came at the Sunshine Coast, including a debut success by just under one-and-a-half lengths.

He followed that with another win in Class 1 company over the same course and distance.

On handicap debut at Eagle Farm, he ran well at odds, finishing third over 1810m and beaten less than half a length.

After a spell, his return at the Gold Coast was solid when finishing sixth over 1400m, and with the step back up in trip and improvement expected, he looks hard to beat.

Gordon’s Gin Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Ipswich Roughie - Race 5 No. 7 Perri Lass

Perri Lass has a strong record at this venue, finishing in the top three in all three starts here.

Two of those efforts came last preparation, including a third in a Benchmark 0-58 over 1666m.

She followed that with a close second in a Class 1 and Maiden Plate over 2000m at Murwillumbah.

After being held in her final two runs of the campaign, she returned over 1350m at this track earlier this month.

That run had merit given she was ridden cold and forced wide, and with added fitness and the rise in distance to suit, she can surprise at odds.

Seven Benchmark 70 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 7 No. 8 Bovidae

Bovidae recorded his first win of the season over 1666m at this track back in October.

He scored by over half a length in a Benchmark 65 on that occasion.

While unplaced in two runs to end last preparation, he was beaten less than two-and-a-half lengths both times.

His latest effort came at Doomben over 1630m before being spelled.

After three trials to prepare for this return, improvement is expected, and with suitable conditions and proven versatility at shorter trips, he appeals as a value runner despite the wide draw.
