Newcastle Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 2 Clanwilliam

It was an eye-catching debut from Clanwilliam, coming from the rear to run the fastest closing sectionals of a Rosehill maiden on October 1.

That race has produced five subsequent winners.

His next run was a touch plain, appearing reluctant to pick up between runners, and a slow recovery was noted after that Warwick Farm effort.

He responded with a fourth-place finish when stepping to this distance before a break, again running the fastest last 400m and 200m of a maiden that has produced three subsequent winners.

Among those was runner-up Matias, who has since saluted twice at Group 3 level, and while the lack of public trials is a query, the return straight to seven furlongs suggests he's forward enough.

Newcastle Best Bet - Race 4 No. 11 Chatterley

The main two hopes come through the Wyong maiden on April 4 won by Tupakara.

While there was little between Jump Around and Chatterley in that race, both have upside, but the latter gets the nod here with more exposed form.

Her peak performance came second-up last spring when finishing third at Group 3 level.

She also overcame trouble to finish a placing in the Reginald Allen Quality, a race that has since produced three subsequent winners at Group level.

Despite drawing wide, that should not be a major issue on the spacious Newcastle track, and the daughter of Snitzel looks well placed to break through.

The Prince Of Merewether BM68 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Newcastle Value Bet - Race 7 No. 6 Sheeza Diva

Following a strong trial win, there was solid market support for Sheeza Diva at her Hawkesbury resumption.

While the run may have looked a little plain, she still finished within three lengths of the winner.

With limited first-up form and stepping straight to 1300m off just one trial, she was left vulnerable late in a fast-run race.

She will strip fitter here, and both the rise in trip and drop in grade are positives.

There was clear potential earlier in the campaign, highlighted by a second-up win and a Group 3 fourth at Rosehill when producing the fastest closing sectionals of the Gloaming Stakes.
