The Valley @ Southside Cranbourne Handicap Tips (Race 1)

Cranbourne Next Best Bet - Race 1 No. Obambulate

Obambulate should be hard to beat in the opening race at Cranbourne after showing promise during his debut preparation with two wins from three starts, including one at Caulfield.

The Busuttin and Young galloper needed the run first-up and found the class above him in the Group 3 McNeil Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield last month.

He then settled handy and finished within two lengths of winner Lara Antipova in the Listed Exford Plate over 1400m at Flemington at his most recent start.

The son of Tiger Of Malay drops significantly in class and went more than five lengths faster than standard benchmark at Flemington, which is five lengths better than the next-best last-start figure in this race, produced by Over The Bridge, who looks the clear danger.

Obambulate improved eight lengths when third-up last preparation to score at Caulfield and, from barrier seven in the small field, he can look to cross over and should prove hard to beat.

Mittys Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Cranbourne Best Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Ocean Bay

Ocean Bay has clicked right into gear this preparation, winning three on the trot after doing little in two runs earlier this year.

The former Kiwi produced the best of those victories last time when stepping up to 1600m in Benchmark 74 company at Sandown, settling handy before proving too strong for Jenni Gone Bonkers.

The Gavin Bedggood-trained mare remains in the same grade and rises in weight, but the step up to 2000m should suit.

Her racing pattern also looks ideal for Cranbourne, with the four-year-old preferring to settle handy and control her position throughout.

Ocean Bay can continue her winning run and looks well placed to go on with the job.

Powerflo Solutions Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Cranbourne Value Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Romantic Encounter

Two runs into the preparation, Romantic Encounter has already competed in stronger company than he meets here, finishing fifth first-up in a Benchmark 88 before running sixth behind Buccleuch over 1400m at Sandown last time.

The Hayes-trained galloper settled handy and stuck on reasonably well in the closing stages, which was a solid effort given he was forced to work early from a wide barrier to find a position near the speed.

This time around, the four-year-old draws the inside gate and can either lead or take a sit behind the leader, giving him the opportunity for a much more economical run.

The prospect of a drier track should also work in his favour, while Jackson Radley takes the ride and claims 2kg.

With a better setup than he has had in his first two runs back, Romantic Encounter looks capable of making his presence felt at a value price.
