Tobin Brothers Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Mornington Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 7 Tres Magnifique
The 1000m is so often thought of as a specialist distance and Tres Magnifique is perfectly placed at these shorter trips, with four of her five wins coming over this journey.
Her first defeat at the distance came fresh when second as a beaten favourite at Sandown Hillside on September 5, but she lost no admirers in that seasonal return, finishing as the pick of the on-speed brigade in a race where Behaviour swooped late.
That winner has been in excellent form through the winter and backed up the performance with a very good fourth-of-nine finish when stepping up sharply in grade to a handy BM100 at Caulfield last Saturday.
Jamie Melham takes the reins for Saturday’s second-up assignment and, while Tres Magnifique will need the breaks to come from barrier one with plenty of speed drawn to her outside, she may be able to secure the suck run along the rail before having the last say if clear running presents in the straight.
She bolted in second-up last campaign on Soft ground as a short-priced favourite for her first metropolitan triumph and looks capable of working a little further through the grades this season, with this Benchmark 84 well within reach.

Mornington Roughie - Race 5 No. 9 House Of Lords
There is some depth to this 2000m BM84, with Federer heading a competitive early market despite proving a frustrating galloper, while Sapphire Siren may be the best horse in the race after being scratched from Caulfield last Saturday following a nice first-up win.
At bolter’s odds, House Of Lords could be sneaking under the guard given what her two runs read like this preparation, although her latest effort at Sandown was much better than the bare result suggests.
She went back and was completely unsuited by the race shape, but still worked home strongly to record the fastest final 600m of the race and should now be ready for 2000m third-up.
Her staying credentials were established when she rounded out her previous campaign with a BM74 victory on Golden Mile Day at Bendigo, while the lightly raced six-year-old owns a tidy overall record and is rarely far away.
She was comfortably beaten first-up at Caulfield, but that 1400m return can effectively be treated as a barrier trial after she was taken back and never in contention, and now up to a more suitable journey with two runs under the belt, a sharp improvement from the daughter of Almanzor would not surprise.
R.M. Ansett Classic Tips (Race 6)
Mornington Feature Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Asva
This Tasmanian visitor won the Group 3 Launceston Cup at his most recent attempt over this distance and has completed three runs in his Melbourne campaign, with merit in two of those performances.
His return in a BM100 at Flemington was encouraging as he stuck on well in a handy race, before being completely unsuited second-up at Sandown when settling in a muddling affair and tiring late as a result.
Asva bounced back at Flemington on September 12 and, while again never in winning contention with the tempo against him, his work along the inside once warming to the task late was quite good, recording the fourth-fastest final 200m of the 1700m event.
Jett Stanley stays aboard after partnering him third-up at Flemington and was also in the saddle for his Launceston Cup victory.
It is a sharp rise in distance, but he is clearly looking for further and his 2000m-plus form, aside from his Hobart Cup failure, has been quite consistent, making the available each-way price appealing in an open Mornington feature on Saturday.
Louvretec Melbourne Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Mornington Best Bet - Race 7 No. 3 Concord Connie
It has been an excellent September for the Charlotte Littlefield stable, with nine starters producing three winners and four placegetters, and one of her more progressive types resumes on Saturday in Concord Connie.
The daughter of Contributer could easily be unbeaten, having narrowly missed on debut at Ballarat in November last year before a break and then returning for an unbeaten three-run autumn campaign.
She opened her account in a Pakenham maiden before easily handling the rise to metropolitan company with a dominant Flemington victory over seven furlongs, then remained at that trip when completing the hat-trick on May 16, again at Flemington, with Jett Stanley aboard for those final two wins.
Stanley also partnered her in two September jump-outs at Pakenham, where she was slow away in the first before working home behind Gallant Sun, who has been Group 1 placed in his past two starts, while she jumped cleanly and was given a solid workout when winning her latest 1000m heat.
Connections will have loftier spring targets in mind, with this BM78 against her own sex a very winnable starting point, and she will need to be putting away opposition of this calibre if those bigger targets are to be reached.
