Toowoomba Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 3 High Prophet

A stylish debut win over 1100m at Toowoomba on May 2 saw High Prophet outperform a big starting price before heading for a break.

He was then well supported in a late-season Saturday two-year-old handicap at Doomben, where he finished third after settling back in a race dominated by those on speed.

Kicking off his three-year-old season on September 12, the Troy Pascoe-trained galloper exploded late over 1110m at Doomben, rattling home for an impressive metropolitan victory.

That performance shapes as an ideal lead-in to this 1200m feature, while he importantly brings local form from his first race-day success at this circuit.

By Divine Prophet out of a High Chaparral mare, his breeding suggests he should get over further as the season progresses, but this looks a suitable early-spring target and there is no reason he cannot continue progressing in Saturday’s Toowoomba Guineas.

1equine Weetwood Tips (Race 8)

Toowoomba Value Bet - Race 8 No. 4 Esjay

A strong local stable, a good fresh record and a likely solid tempo all bring Esjay into calculations for the Weetwood at an appealing early price.

The son of Rothesay had a solid enough trial on September 8 and should bring plenty of residual fitness from a Queensland winter campaign that he bookended with victories.

He kicked off that preparation in May with a 1000m success on a Heavy 8 at Eagle Farm before showing his versatility when winning over the mile at Doomben on July 18 prior to a short break.

There were also several strong efforts in much better company between those wins, including a respectable showing at a massive price in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 and an unlucky run when narrowly denied in the Listed Eye Liner on Ipswich Cup Day.

With Angela Jones aboard and a strong tempo likely to give him the chance to produce his best late, Esjay is capable of unleashing a big finish and looks underrated in the early market.

Toowoomba Feature Bet - Race 9 No. 5 Prince Levi

The open betting market reflects the tricky nature of this year’s Toowoomba Cup, but Prince Levi only needs to reproduce his better 2026 form to be highly competitive at an each-way price.

He was effectively first-up over 1615m at Doomben on September 12 following an honest performance without favours in the Grahame Cup on July 16, where the 2350m may also have stretched him.

Earlier form provides some solid references, including a fourth-of-six finish at Group 3 level in June, while his three black-type performances prior to that were all sound.

His most recent two victories both came around this distance range earlier in the year before he was given a freshen-up ahead of the carnival.

Now fitter with that September run under the belt and back around his preferred trip, Prince Levi can give the Toowoomba Cup a shake with regular rider Mark Du Plessis remaining aboard.

AG Rigging Class 6 Handicap Tips (Race 10)

Toowoomba Best Bet - Race 10 No. 8 Off The Press

Honest as they come, the Canberra-based Off The Press looks ideally placed by trainer Todd Smart in this Class 6 handicap with just 53kg after Anna Roper’s claim.

The six-year-old brings a string of competitive Sydney references from this season, including two BM78 placings this preparation, the first over 1100m at Rosehill in a race that has produced two subsequent winners.

One of those was Polyglot, who went on to win in open company in Brisbane, while last time Off The Press was no match for smart winner Decorum but still finished ahead of Night Agent at Randwick.

That form received another boost when Night Agent came out and won impressively in Sydney last Saturday, adding further merit to Off The Press’ latest effort.

He is yet to win over 1300m, but his latest attempt at the trip produced a second to Cross Tasman, while he was also runner-up over 1400m in January carrying 5.5kg more than he does here, making this an appealing placement for a tactically versatile galloper chasing a deserved seventh career win.
