Belmont Favourite - Race 3 No. 8 So Si God

Honesty has been a feature of So Si God’s career to date, with a win and six placings from eight starts, and she looks to be getting close to another victory now hard fit with three runs under the belt.

The Sean and Jake Casey-trained mare backs up from last Saturday, when she was ridden cold from a wide draw before launching late to finish third behind Marcos and Pistone over 1200m, beaten around half-a-length and recording the fastest closing sectionals of the race.

She drops 1.5kg into this no-metropolitan-wins-last-year event and appears to find less depth than she faced seven days earlier, with the more favourable barrier five also giving Chris Parnham considerably more options.

There are also some useful references from her first campaign, when she followed a debut victory with four placings through late summer and early autumn, while Parnham has built a handy association with the mare.

So Si God has shown she is comfortable on both Good and Soft surfaces and, remaining at 1200m fourth-up from a much kinder draw, this looks her best chance of the preparation to bring up win number two.

Tabtouch Westspeed Platinum Series Final Tips (Race 6)

Belmont Best Bet - Race 6 No. 1 Bosun

Three straight victories have Bosun chasing four on the trot in Saturday’s Westspeed Platinum Spring Series Final for in-form trainer Mitchell Pateman.

It is difficult to look away from the lightly raced six-year-old after he won the key September 12 lead-up here with 60kg, coming from the rear to score softly as favourite over 1400m.

The 1600m is new territory, but he has been beating many of the same horses he meets again, with Swift Talker runner-up in that latest heat and Bosun appearing to have more in hand than the official margin suggests.

I Love Ya Money is another leading market rival and has been racing consistently through the series, but Bosun put more than four lengths on that rival a fortnight ago.

The wide draw suits his established pattern of being left alone early before producing one sustained run down the outside, and with plenty of raw potential still there, he looks capable of progressing beyond this grade if connections can keep him sound.

Drummond Golf Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 12 Like Clockwork

William Pike and Michael Grantham have formed a highly productive combination, and they team up again with the resuming Like Clockwork in Saturday’s 1200m Benchmark 66+.

The four-year-old is unbeaten fresh and looks forward enough to maintain that record after comfortably winning a 950m Lark Hill trial on September 21.

Her previous campaign was built towards the three-year-old features, with a fourth in the Listed Belmont Guineas over 1600m before she failed to see out the 2000m of the Listed Belmont Oaks at her final run.

Those runs suggest connections may be better served keeping the daughter of Extreme Choice around the sprint-to-mile range, with the longer trip appearing to dull the turn-of-foot that had made her so effective earlier in the preparation.

This sets up for a typical Pike ride from off the speed and, with Like Clockwork possessing one of the sharper finishes in the race, even luck should give her every chance to resume a winner before progressing to stronger assignments.

Ascot Opening Day 10th October Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Belmont Value Bet - Race 8 No. 4 Centre Bond

At a big price, Centre Bond looks worth another chance on an each-way basis despite rising 5kg from what he carried last Saturday, with the Graeme Ballantyne-trained six-year-old dropping from BM66+ company into a one-metropolitan-win event.

He attacks this hard fit with three runs under the belt and, judging by his previous campaign, reaching peak fitness deeper into a preparation has been important to him.

His first-up effort was only fair, although his trial suggested he would need the outing, before he was heavily supported second-up in Class 3 company at Belmont and given few favours after having to drag back and find trouble.

The tactics again worked against him last Saturday, when he appeared to jump cleanly before being restrained to the rear in a slowly run BM66+, leaving him with virtually no mathematical chance despite working home reasonably under the circumstances.

Jarrad Noske takes over from barrier five and, while Centre Bond has proven difficult to catch, there is enough raw ability there to suggest he can bob up at a big price now fourth-up and back in easier company.
