Jokers Grin is the leading local hope for the 2025 Winterbottom Stakes and, with nine wins and two seconds from 12 starts, the Bernie Miller-trained galloper continues to build an imposing record.

He returned with a 1000m victory in the Prince Of Wales Stakes before adding the Group 3 Colonel Reeves, where the gelding looped the field from the rear to score over 1100m.

His only finish outside the top two came on debut in May last year, while his Quokka triumph in April underlined his ability to match it with any major Australian sprinter.

In the 2025 Winterbottom Stakes market with Unibet Australia, Jokers Grin is a $2.60 favourite ahead of Overpass ($2.80).

The Bjorn Baker-trained galloper boasts an excellent record at Ascot with four wins from five attempts, and he completed a trial following a fourth-place finish when resuming in The Everest.

Those Ascot victories include consecutive wins in the last two editions of this sprint feature, and in 2025 he will chase history as the first three-time Winterbottom Stakes winner.

Luana Miss ($8) rounds out the single-figure chances, and the Trevor Andrews-trained filly is aiming to become the first three-year-old since Hardrada in 2002 to claim the Winterbottom Stakes.

She has won four of six starts and backed up her eye-catching spring resumption with consecutive Ascot victories.

Rey Magnerio ($10) is a consistent Eastern States visitor and the six-year-old resumed with a Caulfield victory on October 18 before an unlucky third as a beaten favourite at Flemington.

Winterbottom Stakes Winners

The Winterbottom Stakes is Perth’s premier sprint race, a weight-for-age Group 1 contest run over 1200m at Ascot.

Worth $1.5 million, the Winterbottom is one of three Group 1 races held across consecutive weekends in Perth and forms a key part of The Pinnacles series.

Since its prize pool rose into seven figures, the race has regularly attracted elite sprinters from across the country, with Voodoo Lad, Viddora and Buffering all successful as eastern-state raiders. Past champions such as Takeover Target and Ortensia also travelled west to claim this prestigious feature.

Paulele (2022) and Overpass (2023 and 2024) have captured the last three editions of the Winterbottom Stakes.
