Overpass (barrier 16) is unbeaten in Western Australia, with the Bjorn Baker-trained galloper succeessful in all three appearances over the 1200m at Ascot and that includes a comfortable victory in last year's Winterbottom Stakes.

The six-year-old will contest this feature third-up following a somewhat plain performance in the Champions Sprint, however, it's worth noting that he won the 2023 Winterbottom Stakes after being well held in The Everest.

Western Empire (barrier 4) is an interesting runner, with the seven-year-old focusing on shorter distances this campaign and while he was a beaten fav, the gelding was still good on return in the Colonel Reeves Stakes

The 2021 Railway Stakes winner was a stylish second-up winner last campaign and the Williams stable have focused on the Winterbottom Stakes and the Gold Rush as the target races this prep.

Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald prepared the first Group 1 winner of the 2024 Perth Summer Carnival via Port Lockroy in the Railway Stakes and they're well placed for a second feature victory in the west with Lady Laguna (barrier 1), who was a Group 1 WFA winner in March.

Luke Fernie has accepted with Man Crush (barrier 7), Laced Up Heels (barrier 12) and Bravo Centurion (barrier 15), with the latter arriving to this Group 1 attempt off six consecutive wins and that includes an impressive all-the-way triumph in the Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes on November 2.

Steve Wolfe has dual representation via Red Can Man (barrier 11) and the more-fancied Rope Them In (barrier 9) who defeated Western Empire first-up and the early market has the Colonel Reeves Stakes as the main local form reference.

Winterbottom Stakes Winners

The Winterbottom Stakes is Perth's premier sprint race, a WFA Group One contested over 1200m at Ascot.

Worth $1.5 million, the Winterbottom is one of three Group 1 races run over three weekends in Perth and is one of the main parts of The Pinnacles series.
