Skybird (barrier 2) could be a star in the making, a filly who is unbeaten from three starts and each victory has been stylish, where she's made ground and recorded slick times in the process.

The Mitchell Freedman-trained three-year-old handled the rise from BM64 to Group 2 company when taking out the Fillies Classic and that was one of the memorable wins on the entire Cox Plate day program, where she was back and on the rails before rattling home late.

After being unsuited over 1000m on debut back in May, Coeur Volante (barrier 5) has won her next three and that includes two stakes victories this campaign.

The daughter of Proisir showed her versatility when overcoming a wide gate to sit on the speed last start, where she pulled away late off a good tempo and that followed a conservative ride over 1200m first-up.

Blake Shinn stays aboard for this third-up assignment.

Following three strong chasing efforts over 1400m, stepping up to 1600m should suit the Chris Waller-trained Joliestar (barrier 1), although she was well-beaten by Arctic Glamour (barrier 7) two starts back in the Listed Reginald Quality.

Prepared by Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou, Arctic Glamour suffered her first defeat for the campaign when losing the Group 2 Callander-Presnell on October 28 and interestingly, she stays at 1600m despite that loss.

13 runners make up the final field for the 2023 Thousand Guineas.

Thousand Guineas Winners

A relatively new race to the Australian racing calendar in comparison to other carnival features, the Thousand Guineas was first run and won in 1946 when Sweet Chime took it out.

Gaining Group 1 status in 1979, the Thousand Guineas was run on the second day of the Melbourne Spring Carnival (Wednesday) from 1988 to 2013 and then after returning to that slot following some time on the Caulfield Guineas program, it's now run following the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

The Thousand Guineas joins the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, another rescheduled Group 1 and these features headline a new meeting on the calendar.

Classy fillies have won this 1600m affair, with Miss Finland, Atlantic Jewel and Alinghi three of the more notable champions who feature on the honour roll.

Odeum (2020), Yearning (2021) and Madame Pommery (2022) have won the last three editions of the Thousand Guineas.
