Although Montefilia (barrier 9) was no match for a brilliant Dubai Honour in last Saturday's Ranvet Stakes, the four-time Group 1 winner was honest as runner-up over 2000m second-up.

The five-year-old has been successful at 2400m once, with victory in the 2021 Metropolitan.

Gold Trip (barrier 13) was just fair in the Ranvet Stakes, but he was coming out of a very fast-run 1800m first-up and is seemingly looking for this extra trip now.

He placed in the Caulfield Cup over this distance last spring, before taking out the Melbourne Cup two starts later.

The Maher & Eustace stable also prepare Explosive Jack (barrier 14), with the three-time Derby winner building well in three runs following a 14 month absence, arriving here off a runner-up finish in the Canberra Cup.

Irish trainer Joseph O'Brien has brought across Cleveland (barrier 11), a lightly raced five-year-old that was Group 3 placed over this journey last August.

The winner of the Tancred Stakes is exempt from ballot for the 2023 Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the 2023 Sydney Cup.

Tancred Stakes Winners

The Group One Tancred Stakes is a $1.5 million dollar 2400m race run at Rosehill Gardens and it headlines their last day of the carnival before going Royal Randwick.

An event that's had many names due to fluctuating sponsorships, it was run as The BMW throughout the early 1990s and from 2002 to 2017, a name that's still familiar to racing fans for those reasons.

A long list of champions are on the winners list, with Kingston Town (1980), Octagonal (1996/97), Might And Power (1998) and Makybe Diva (2005) some of the famous names on the honour roll.

Verry Elleegant (2020), Sir Dragonet (2021) and Duais (2022) have won the last three editions of the Tancred Stakes.
