The Hayes boys have timed their Stradbroke run perfectly with War Machine, who cemented his position via a dominant BRC Sprint win a fortnight ago.
The four-year-old could easily be unbeaten this campaign, with a narrow defeat first-up over 1200m and he quickly atoned second-up at Caulfield.
War Machine has relished fast speed over this distance range via his two outings and that holds him in good stead for a high pressure Stradbroke Handicap.
The query is that he hasn't raced at Eagle Farm, but as the form runner with 3.5kg less from his last assignment, War Machine is a deserving favourite.
2025 Stradbroke Handicap Next Best Bet - Private Eye
With the veteran racing into early December and off a long spring campaign, Private Eye missed the autumn carnivals in both Sydney and Melbourne.
Every run will count from here on with the seven-year-old, who bypassed the Kingsford-Cup, as that event was moved and connections have opted for the Stradbroke Handicap.
The Group 1 winner has topweight of 57kg and he had the same impost when runner-up to Alligator Blood in the 2022 Stradbroke Handicap.
Private Eye is the class runner of the field and while he's giving weight to all of his rivals, he's a proven fresh performer who looks set for a first-up spike.
2025 Stradbroke Handicap Value Bet - Yellow Brick
The forgotten runner of the field could be Yellow Brick, who was plain with a big weight first-up at Doomben, although he did land outside a fast tempo there.
He carries 6.5kg less from that BRC Sprint performance and while many have struggled on this Eagle Farm circuit, he's one who will relish the track switch.
From six starts at Eagle Farm, Yellow Brick has recorded four wins and two seconds, while he was a second-up winner over this track/trip last prep.
There's a lot speed to his outside and while he has early toe, don't be surprised if Andrew Mallyon applies slightly colder tactics this time around.
