Off an impressive second campaign that saw her win four of five starts, culminating in a stylish Group 3 victory up the Flemington straight on Oaks Day, Point Barrow emerged as one of the most exciting up-and-coming sprinters heading into the autumn.

Her 2026 return came as favourite in the Oakleigh Plate, where she produced only an even effort that left the jury slightly out.

She quickly responded with a comfortable victory in the Group 3 Typhoon Tracy Stakes, putting that performance behind her with authority.

Following that March 21 success, the Freedman camp elected to keep her on the fresh side with this Group 1 assignment in mind.

She does draw wide, but that is not always a disadvantage in this big one-turn sprint at Morphettville, where the middle and wider lanes are often in play.

Bringing comfortably the best recent exposed form into the Robert Sangster Stakes is Skybird.

Her fresh run was solid without being spectacular, with the 2025 Black Caviar Lightning winner taking the hit-out she needed in the Challenge Stakes.

She improved nicely second-up, finishing third of nine in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes at weight-for-age level, a race taken out by the flying Joliestar, with the very talented Giga Kick runner-up.

That Sydney weight-for-age form reads strongly for this fillies and mares feature.

While she can mix her form at times, Skybird did salute over this track-and-trip at Group 2 level during the 2024 Adelaide Carnival, and she now arrives here third-up into this campaign.

It shapes as a dual-pronged attack from the Anthony and Sam Freedman yard in this year’s Robert Sangster Stakes.

They hold the favourite in Point Barrow, but outsider Ameena profiles as a runner who should not be overlooked.

This mare is best caught early in a preparation, with all three of her career victories coming at either her first or second-up.

She resumed with a runner-up finish in last year’s Robert Sangster Stakes, briefly looking the winner before the momentum out wide from Charm Stone proved too strong.

Her only first-up miss was a luckless fifth-of-eight in the spring, and she has since been kept up to the mark with four jump-outs, working through the line well in the latest.
