2025 Robert Sangster Stakes Best Bet - A Little Deep
It's a very open edition of the Robert Sangster Stakes, where you could make a case for most runners and a competitive early market has Climbing Star as fav to defend her crown.
Ciaron Maher has trained two of the last three winners of this race and he's clearly aimed A Little Deep at this Group 1, with the mare arriving here off a return win at Flemington.
Five of her six victories have come either first or second-up and her career highlight came second-up last campaign when saluting at Listed level over this distance at Moonee Valley.
The placegetters there were Arkansaw Kid, who beat a subsequent Group 1 winner at his next start, while Desert Lightning (third) won a Group 3 before two competitive Group 1 showings.
2025 Robert Sangster Stakes Next Best Bet - Stretan Angel
Stretan Angel is a stablemate to Climbing Star and while her winning drought stretches back to October 2023, she's has been competitive in decent company since her last triumph.
The four-year-old brings the best form references to this fillies and mares contest, with Group 1 placings to open her prep in fields that included Skybird, Joliestar, Headwall and Mazu.
While she was out of the money last time out when fourth-of-nine in the William Reid Stakes, Jimmysstar (All Aged Stakes winner last Saturday) finished third in that 1200m Group 1.
Stretan Angel has completed a solid jump-out since that March 22 outing, while she's recorded a win and three seconds (one at Group 1 level) from five starts at Morphettville.
2025 Robert Sangster Stakes Value Bet - Ameena
The Anthony & Sam Freedman stable have aimed Ameena for a fresh tilt the Robert Sangster Stakes and with three autumn jump-outs completed, she'll be ready to fire on return.
Three of the last seven winners of this race have been three-year-old's and that includes Shoals, who won the Robert Sangster Stakes first-up for Anthony Freedman back in 2018.
Ameena has a perfect first-up record and after saluting fresh over 1200m at Randwick last campaign, she wasn't as dynamic later in the prep when stretching out to seven furlongs.
The daughter of Tassort moved nicely when taking out her last jump-out at Caulfield Heath and barrier eight gives Jamie Melham plenty of options aboard this versatile filly.
