Spelled after a third-place finish on debut in the spring of 2024, Point Barrow impressed throughout a lengthy second campaign, winning four of five starts, with the latest a stylish Group 3 victory up the Flemington straight on Oaks Day.

While she didn’t deliver as favourite in the Oakleigh Plate on her 2026 resumption, she quickly rebounded with a Group 3 win at Caulfield on Saturday, March 21, which was run over this distance.

In a competitive market with Ladbrokes for the 2026 Robert Sangster Stakes, Point Barrow is a $4 favourite.

Generosity ($6) brings strong Sydney form, winning the Challenge Stakes on resumption, a race that has produced three subsequent Group winners, including Marhoona, a Group 1 victor at her next appearance.

She was then competitive in The Galaxy, a Group 1 sprint on Golden Slipper Day, and now steps to 1200m to contest this Group 1.

Also on the second line of betting at $6 is Skybird, who built off a solid resumption with a third-place finish in the Group 1 TJ Smith Stakes on the opening day of The Championships, a strong form reference for this fillies and mares Group 1.

The highlight came earlier in 2025 when taking out the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning up the Flemington straight.

Benedetta ($8) has been competitive at Group 1 level for over two years, with the highlight coming during the 2024 Adelaide Carnival when she won the Group 1 Goodwood after placing in that year’s Robert Sangster Stakes.

Charm Stone ($8) saluted in the 2025 edition of this race and later added a second Group 1 in the spring when successful in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Super Smink ($9) won on Adelaide debut in the RN Irwin Stakes on April 11, a key lead-up to the Robert Sangster Stakes, and the WA-based galloper was also a Group 2 winner second-up last spring.

Robert Sangster Stakes Winners

Being a Group 1 1200m sprint restricted to fillies and mares, the Robert Sangster Stakes is a unique feature on the Australian racing calendar, running alongside the Australasian Oaks.

First run in 1983, the race was elevated to Group 1 status in 2005 and renamed from the Swettenham Stud Stakes to the Robert Sangster Stakes following the passing of the prolific businessman, owner and breeder in 2004, who was the principal of Swettenham Stud.

Black Caviar and Alinghi are among the champions to have taken out the feature, helping establish it as a key target for elite sprinting mares.

Ruthless Dame (2023), Climbing Star (2024) and Charm Stone (2025) have won the last three editions of the Robert Sangster Stakes.
