The Golden Eagle continues to evolve as one of the spring’s most intriguing features, pitting Australia’s top four-year-olds against a growing international presence. The 2025 edition carries a fresh shape, with a mix of unbeaten talent, proven Group performers, and global challengers all converging at Randwick.

It’s been a reliable form race in recent years, though the depth of this renewal appears thinner, leaving three standout chances to dominate the market. At the head of betting ($2.20 @ EliteBet) sits Autumn Glow, who remains unbeaten and commands top billing as she chases a perfect campaign.

The Golden Eagle 2025 Tips

Perhaps the 2025 Golden Eagle takes on a fresh shape.

It’s been a strong form race in recent years, though the depth of this edition appears thinner, with three single-figure chances standing out from the rest.

Autumn Glow is a clear and deserved favourite — unbeaten and so far bombproof. She’s the one to beat as the market suggests, with the main query being the strength of her form.

Outside of Ceolwulf improving out of sight from the Epsom, this season’s references hardly jump off the page, but she’s been mostly dominant.

Japanese contender Panja Tower adds an international flavour to the race, having won four of six starts, including a Group 3 in August over 1200m. Following in the footsteps of Obamburumai, who captured the Golden Eagle for Japan in 2023, the entire was a Group 1 NHK Mile winner in May — a 1600m that went a super-slick 1:31.70.

Comparing tracks by time isn’t reliable, but for perspective, Hartnell’s 1600m record at Randwick stands at 1:32.73 — more than six lengths slower.

The Golden Eagle 2025 Best Bet - Linebacker

Linebacker, winner of the Silver Eagle, shapes as the each-way play here. There could still be improvement to come from the gelding, given the space between his first and second-up runs — around six weeks — after a slight setback ruled him out of the Epsom.

He was dominant a fortnight ago and had already proven himself last autumn, winning a Group 1 third-up before a luckless Doncaster Mile effort.

He’s a strong, progressive type who looks to be peaking for this target third-up, with the 1500m at Randwick an ideal setup at this stage of the campaign.

The Golden Eagle 2025 Value Bet - Willydoit

Willydoit has interestingly been kept to shorter trips in his first campaign under Ciaron Maher, despite taking out the New Zealand Derby.

He was at the end of a long initial prep when fourth in the Australian Derby, and his brilliance was on display around the 1400m–1600m range over summer.

He’s building nicely this time in, producing the race-fastest closing sectionals of the Tramway first-up before an even second-up run. Blinkers now go on, and back to the bigger Randwick circuit, he could be dangerous late if it’s a high-pressure 1500m.
