Elina Svitolina faces Maya Joint in the US Open second round, with Svitolina strongly favored to win and cover a -5.5 games handicap. Svitolina has been dominant against players ranked outside the top 50 on hardcourt and boasts an impressive 30-1 record in Grand Slam second rounds. Joint, meanwhile, has struggled in 2026, with a 0-6 record versus top 10 players and just seven main-draw wins all season. The match is one-sided on paper, making Svitolina a logical pick to advance comfortably.

Elina Svitolina vs Maya Joint US Open Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Just the one bet for this US Open second round showdown on Wednesday, with Elina Svitolina tipped to cover a -5.5 line in victory over Australia's Maya Joint.

Joint has endured a challenging season, marred with illness and injuries, along with trying to back up her stellar breakout 2025, which saw her break into the top 30.

The 20-year-old has managed just seven tour-level victories in 2026, but she produced her best match of the year to defeat Liudmila Samsonova in three sets in her US Open first round.

That would have restored some belief, but unfortunately this is one of the worst possible matchups for Joint. Svitolina simply does everything that little bit better and the Aussie doesn't have a big weapon to force the World No. 9 into uncomfortable positions.

Then there's Joint's record against top 10 opponents, which can be viewed below.

As you can see, lots of one-sided scores and sets mixed in for a 0-6 record.

Svitolina is coming off a dominant 6-1 6-2 win in her opening round over Solana Sierra and is unbeaten on hardcourt against players ranked outside the top 50 this season. She also has an incredible record in slam second round matches (see below).

This should be a routine win for Svitolina as she looks to secure her spot in the third round.
  • Svitolina has a 14-0 record vs 50+ players on hardcourt this season
  • Svitolina has won 30 of her last 31 Grand Slam second round matches
  • Svitolina has covered a -5.5 line in six of her last seven Grand Slam second round matches
  • Joint has a 0-6 record vs top 10 players
  • Joint has failed to cover a +5.5 line in four of those six defeats

Elina Svitolina Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 42-12
  • US Open Record: 25-12
  • Current Ranking: No. 9
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 3

It's been another incredibly consistent season for Svitolina, who remains entrenched inside the top 10 and one of the toughest players to put away.

Svitolina has won 42 of her 54 matches this season, with 26 of those victories coming on hardcourt.

The 31-year-old has picked up titles in Rome and Auckland, along with finishing runner-up in Dubai and making the semi-finals of the Australian Open, Indian Wells and Toronto.

After withdrawing from Cincinnati, Svitolina put aside any question marks about her fitness in her opening round in New York, blitzing Solana Sierra for the loss of just three games, 6-1 6-2.

Maya Joint Form Analysis

  • 2026 WTA Record: 7-19
  • US Open Record: 3-2
  • Current Ranking: No. 72
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 28 (Feb 2026)

After breaking into the world's top 30 at the start of the year, Joint really struggled on tour, going on a 11-match losing streak from Adelaide to Eastbourne.

The 20-year-old has since got a few wins on the board - Joint beat Serena Williams at Wimbledon and toppled Sorana Cirstea in Toronto to make the third round. However, the Aussie was also knocked out in the first rounds of Cincinnati and Monterrey by Tamara Korpatsch and Panna Udvardy respectively.

Joint however brushed off those defeats to produce her best tennis of the year in her US Open first round, coming from a set down to beat Liudmilla Samsonova by a 3-6 6-2 6-2 score, claiming four of five break points and registering 78 per cent of first serves.

Joint is now 3-0 in US Open first rounds, but has never progressed beyond the second round in eight previous Grand Slam appearances.
