Carlos Alcaraz takes on Jaime Faria in the US Open second round, marking their first professional meeting. While Alcaraz returned from injury with a solid win over Safiullin, he showed moments of vulnerability. Faria, in his best career form, has recently challenged top players and taken crucial sets in Grand Slam competition. Experts predict Faria will win at least one set, but Alcaraz’s class and experience should see him through in four sets. Viewers can stream the match live via Unibet, subject to geo-restrictions.

Carlos Alcaraz vs Jaime Faria US Open Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Jaime Faria is in career-best form and has been more than competitive in the majority of his Grand Slam defeats, so I'm taking the Portuguese player to win at least one set against Carlos Alcaraz in Wednesday night's US Open second round clash, with the defending champion prevailing in four.

Faria has gone 10-6 in his last 16 tour-level matches, while he's taken at least a set in five of his six previous Grand Slam defeats - and three of those have come against top 25 players in Novak Djokovic, Andrey Rublev and Frances Tiafoe. Faria recently made the Cincinnati R16, claiming his maiden top 10 scalp over Ben Shelton - he's feeling himself right now and I think he'll relish playing prime time under the lights on Ashe.

Alcaraz's return to competitive tennis went as good as it possibly could of, with the Spaniard advancing in straight sets over Roman Safiullin. However, as is to be expected, it wasn't the cleanest of performances, with Alcaraz giving up six break point chances and needing to recover from a break down in the second set. Safiullin hadn't played much hardcourt tennis in the lead-up and I can't help but think a more battle-hardened player could have taken advantage.

Faria certainly fits that description. He played eight matches at the Masters 1000 events before edging Jenson Brooksby in five sets in his opening round. I think Faria can hang with Alcaraz for sustained periods of this clash, but obviously the defending champion has the edge and can prevail in four.

  • Alcaraz has an overall 98-14 record at slams

  • Faria has won 10 of his last 16 matches at tour-level

Alcaraz vs Faria Head To Head

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.

Carlos Alcaraz Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 23-3
  • US Open Record: 25-3
  • Current Ranking: No. 3
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 1 (2022)

Alcaraz arrived at the US Open having not played a singles match since April in Barcelona, where he suffered a wrist injury that sidelined him for Roland Garros and Wimbledon, along with the entire North American hardcourt summer.

As a result, Alcaraz would be pleased with his 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory over Roman Safiullin in his opening round, with the Russian a very dangerous opponent capable of some big tennis.

However, while that score looks routine, Alcaraz only ended up winning eight more points than Safiullin (99-91). The Spaniard gave up six break points, so if Safiullin could have converted more, the match might have turned out very differently.

Alcaraz is bidding to become the first man since Roger Federer from 2004-08 to defend the men's US Open title.

Jaime Faria Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 13-9
  • US Open Record: 1-1
  • Current Ranking: No. 72
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 70 (August 2026)

Faria has made some nice progress this season, really upping the ante from midway through the year.

The Portuguese qualified for Roland Garros and made the third round, where he went down in a nail-biting five-setter against Frances Tiafoe. Faria qualified again for Wimbledon, reaching the second round, while he also made the quarter-finals of his home ATP event in Estoril.

The 23-year-old has continued his momentum on hardcourt, qualifying for Cincinnati and beating Ben Shelton on his way to the fourth round - his first top 10 scalp.

There was another first for Faria in New York - he won his maiden five-set match, edging out Jenson Brooksby 6-3, 7-6(4), 4-6, 1-6, 6-2.
