Adelaide United host Auckland FC in the pivotal second leg of the A-League semi-final, with the aggregate score locked at 1-1 after the first leg. Both teams have shown a penchant for draws, especially by a 1-1 scoreline, and their last meetings have been closely contested. Adelaide go in as slight favorites, buoyed by the return of joint-top scorer Luka Jovanovic, and strong home support at a sold-out Coopers Stadium. The expert prediction is for another tight game possibly ending in a draw in regulation, but Adelaide are tipped to qualify for the Grand Final, with Jovanovic to score.

Adelaide United vs Auckland FC Tips & Prediction

A spot in the 2025/26 A-League Grand Final is on the line as Adelaide United welcome Auckland FC to Coopers Stadium on Friday night for the second leg of their semi-final showdown.

Coopers will be absolutely rocking, with the 2nd leg now officially sold out as the home crowd look to cheer their side onto victory. The tie is delicately poised at 1-1 after last weekend's first leg across the ditch, with Harry Crawford equalising for Adelaide following Lachie Brook's opener.

Crawford picked a great time to score his first goal of the season, but the Reds will welcome back their top scorer Luka Jovanovic for this clash after he missed the first leg through suspension.

Jovanovic was suspended after he took his shirt off in celebration following his stoppage-time winner against Melbourne City in the final round of the regular season, earning Adelaide a direct path into the semis.

“He’s a type of player that can score really crucial goals,” Reds defender Bart Vriends said of Jovanovic, who's found the back of the net 11 times this A-League season to be joint-top of the charts alongside Auckland's Sam Cosgrove.
“That’s what he did in Melbourne, and he’s done it many times for us.”

I think Jovanovic's inclusion can spur Adelaide onto victory - but home fans might have to ride out extra-time and or penalties. We've made excellent profit on backing the 1-1 draw in Adelaide matches over the last couple of months and I can't hop off that bandwagon now. Take Adelaide to qualify, a draw at the end of 90 minutes and Jovanovic getting on the scoresheet.
  • Adelaide are unbeaten in 15 of their last 16 games
  • Adelaide have drawn six of their last nine games
  • All six of those draws have ended in a 1-1 score
  • Five of Auckland's last six games have ended in a draw inside 90 minutes
  • Three of those five draws were by a 1-1 score
  • Four of the five previous meetings ended in a draw, including the last two by a 1-1 score
  • Luka Jovanovic has scored 11 goals in 23 A-League games this season & bagged a brace in his last outing

Adelaide United vs Auckland FC Head To Head

As mentioned, four of the five previous encounters between the teams have ended in a share of the spoils.

Adelaide United Form Analysis

It's been a superb end to the season for Adelaide - they edged out more-fancied teams to finish in second spot on the ladder, earning a week off as a result.

Despite winning just three of their last nine games, the Reds are proving very difficult to break down and beat - and that fighting spirit was on full display again in the first leg of the semi-finals.

After going down 1-0, young gun Harry Crawford found the back of the net after a nice delivery from Yaya Dukuly to give Adelaide another share of the spoils and a positive result heading home for this leg.

“This is arguably the biggest game Adelaide has played in recent years,” Vriends said in the build-up during the week.
“We’ve got to be humble, but confident. We need to step up and grab what’s in front of us and what’s in our hands. We want to be aggressive and positive – that’s our culture.”

Auckland FC Form Analysis

It was a slightly disappointing end to the season for Auckland.

After being a top two mainstay for the bulk of the campaign, the Black Knights were pipped by Adelaide on the final day, forcing the Kiwi club into an elimination final against the reigning premiers.

Auckland were up for the challenge, holding off Melbourne City on penalties to advance into this semi-final tie with the Reds.

Lachlan Brook - who made his A-League debut for Adelaide - sent the home crowd into early celebrations by scoring the opening goal of the game, but Steve Corica's side couldn't hold on and now must deal with a sold-out Coopers Stadium in order to advance to a first Grand Final.

“We’re positive,” Brook said. "We knew that we played quite well. Obviously we conceded that goal. I think the momentum sort of shifted. We had a few of the injuries go down. It wasn’t ideal, and it does (mean we) probably made subs earlier than what we wanted to.
“But yeah we’re still confident and the feeling around the camp has been good.”
