Rafael Jodar, enjoying a breakout 2026 season, faces Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in the ATP Tokyo first round. Jodar boasts a remarkable 22-3 record against non-top-50 opponents this year and is tipped to comfortably advance. Vallejo, while rising into the top 100 and improving on clay, has struggled on hardcourts and faces a significant step up in Jodar. With Jodar fresh and recharged after a strong Laver Cup victory, he is strongly favored to cover the -4.5 handicap and cruise into the next round.

Rafael Jodar vs Adolfo Daniel Vallejo ATP Tokyo Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Rafael Jodar is backed to continue his electric season and ease into the Japan Open second round when he comes up against Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in Tokyo on Thursday night.

It's been an incredible breakout season for Jodar and the young Spaniard will be looking to enhance his ATP Finals credentials by continuing his red-hot form throughout the Asian swing, starting with the Japan Open.

The 20-year-old has won 22 of his 25 matches against players outside the top 50 this season and this looks like a good opening round matchup for him.

Vallejo is also enjoying a nice breakout season, breaking into the top 100 for the first time and knocking on the door of the top 50 heading into this tournament.

However, the Paraguayan is certainly more at home on clay - on hardcourt, he was last season losing to the retiring Gael Monfils at the US Open and going down to Coleman Wong in the second round of Hangzhou last week.

Jodar is obviously a significant step up in quality from those two players and the Spaniard should be fresh and recharged following a busy summer. I'm taking Jodar to cover a -4.5 line in victory.
  • Jodar has gone 22-3 vs 50+ ranked players this season at tour-level
  • Jodar has won 10 of his last 11 opening matches
  • Jodar has covered a -4.5 line in 13 of his 17 wins over 50+ ranked players in best-of-three matches this season
  • Vallejo has a 1-2 record vs top 20 players
  • Vallejo has a 2-4 record in his last six matches on hardcourt

Jodar vs Vallejo Head To Head

This will be the first meeting between the pair.

Rafael Jodar Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 38-15
  • ATP Tokyo Record: 0-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 13
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 11 (Aug 2026)

Jodar started the year ranked outside the top 150, but now he's on the verge of breaking into the top 10 and qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finals, winning 38 matches at tour-level across an outstanding breakout year.

The Spaniard went to another level during the clay swing, picking up his maiden ATP title in Marrakech before reaching his first Grand Slam quarter-final at Roland Garros.

The 20-year-old continued his fine form during the North American hardcourt summer, making the ATP 500 final in Washington before advancing to the semi-finals of the Canada Masters.

However, a hectic schedule eventually caught up to Jodar as he ran out of steam at the US Open, suffering a 6-2 6-1 6-1 beatdown in the first round against Bu Yunchaokete.

But, it looks like Jodar has recharged the batteries and he enters the Japan Open following a routine 6-2 6-3 victory over Alexander Bublik at the Laver Cup this past weekend.

Adolfo Daniel Vallejo Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 15-14
  • ATP Tokyo Record: 0-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 56
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 56 (Aug 2026)

Vallejo has put together an underrated season and comes into this clash with a positive win-loss record for the year, which is impressive in a debut campaign at tour-level.

The 22-year-old made his mark during the clay swing, making the third round of the Madrid Masters as a qualifier, along with advancing to the semi-finals of Bastad.

The Paraguayan had a solid run to the third round of the Cincinnati Masters, but he would have been disappointed with a first round US Open loss to Gael Monfils.

Vallejo has already played a bunch of matches this Asian swing, making the second round of Hangzhou last week before qualifying for the Japan Open, beating Taro Daniel and Jaime Faria to enter the main draw.
