It's a fantastic opportunity for Sakamoto to pick up that first top 50 win and continue his push towards a top 100 debut.

The 20-year-old is equipped with a massive serve and with the backing of the home crowd support, he should be able to make the most of this chance after being awarded a wildcard into the ATP 500 event for the first time.

Arnaldi has been struggling considerably since his extraordinary run to the French Open semi-finals, which ultimately ended in heartbreak as he was forced to withdraw with illness.

The Italian seemingly still hasn't recovered - he's lost seven of his last nine tour-level matches and is down on confidence to begin the Asian swing.

Arnaldi went 1-4 across the North American hardcourt summer, culminating with a four-set first round defeat at the US Open to James Duckworth.

It certainly wasn't a good start, with Sakamoto losing in the opening round of the Shanghai Challenger to the World No. 1038 in straight sets.

That's a poor loss, but Sakamoto has shown glimpses of his immense talent, recently coming through qualifying at the US Open, beating Aleksandar Vukic in the first round of the main draw and taking a set off eventual semi-finalist Frances Tiafoe.

Sakamoto is making his main draw debut in Tokyo after bowing out in qualifying the last two years and will be looking to pick up his first top 50 win here.
