Seymour Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Zentorno

The Patrick Payne stable is in terrific form, with 15 winners at a 29% strike-rate recorded in May, and June has also started well for the yard, with six winners and four placegetters from 32 starters so far this month.

Payne prepares Zentorno, who improved with every jump-out leading into his May 29 return when ridden conservatively from a wide draw.

It was hard to miss him late at Bendigo, where he made ground from the rear and recorded the fastest last 200m of the entire program, with the rise in trip suiting second-up.

The three-year-old showed promise in his second campaign, which opened with a big maiden win fresh, while he should have finished closer in a Flemington stakes race when midfield third-up on a Soft 6.

Billy Egan remains aboard and the leading rider for Patrick Payne is striking at better than 35% for the stable over the last 12 months.

Seymour Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 3 Centu Cavaddi

While his first campaign fell away late, it came in decent company and that placement was warranted.

Centu Cavaddi displayed above-average ability at starts one and two, with a debut victory followed by a third at Sandown in a strong three-year-old affair.

He is open to improvement off his first-up sixth, with the Cranbourne trial leading into that return not overly flash.

The gelding has since returned to the jump-outs and won his May 18 heat with blinkers applied, having always looked a candidate for that gear change.

He also comes through a strong Bendigo race, with Clevor Trever winning at Caulfield next start and runner-up Join The Queue saluting over the Swan Hill Carnival, while a kinder draw and a weaker race provide an opportunity to bounce back.

Mailbag Bloodstock Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Seymour Value Bet - Race 7 No. 7 Strong Box

After being well beaten on debut at Ballarat in May last year as a well-supported favourite, Strong Box was given plenty of time and gelded ahead of his April resumption.

He came to hand quickly with an eye-catching victory at Seymour on April 13.

In that maiden success, the son of Farnan recorded the second-fastest final 800m, 600m and 400m sectionals of the program.

Strong Box was then kept on the fresh side for a metropolitan assignment at Caulfield Heath, where remaining at 1000m worked against him after settling back and chasing.

Although he appeared to be going nowhere, Strong Box got warm late and was beaten under two lengths, a performance that suggested 1200m would suit now third-up, where an each-way quote is available in a decent Class 1.
