Bangladesh vs Australia, 2nd ODI 2026 - Expert Prediction

Bangladesh are one win away from a historic first ODI series victory over Australia and they look well placed to get the job done in Dhaka.

The Tigers dominated the opening match with both bat and ball, while Australia's batting lineup again struggled badly against quality pace.

Bangladesh's quicks set the tone in the first ODI and there is every reason to expect a repeat performance. Mustafizur Rahman struck twice with the new ball and finished with 2-24, while Nahid Rana ripped through the middle order with 4-41. Australia's top order managed just 21 runs from Matthew Short, Marnus Labuschagne and Josh Inglis, leaving too much work for the middle order.

The visitors will take confidence from Cameron Green's unbeaten 52 and Alex Carey's 47, but Australia's batting issues remain significant. Josh Inglis is capable of responding after falling for 19 in the opener and a line of 22.5 runs looks achievable batting at No.4. He made 35, 31 and 19 across the Pakistan and Bangladesh matches leading into this contest and remains one of Australia's most reliable players of spin.

Nathan Ellis was Australia's standout bowler in the first ODI. His excellent spell of 3-38 included the wickets of Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan and Tanvir Islam. Ellis generated movement with the new ball and used his variations effectively at the death. On another surface offering assistance to seamers, he is well placed to collect 2+ wickets again.

Bangladesh's batting lineup also appears in excellent shape. Tanzid Hasan made 54, Najmul Hossain Shanto added 67 and returning allrounder Mosaddek Hossain produced a match-winning 86 not out before backing it up with 2-37. With confidence high and home conditions firmly in their favour, Bangladesh can secure a landmark series victory.

Take Bangladesh to win. Josh Inglis over 22.5 runs. Nathan Ellis 2+ wickets and Mustafizur Rahman 2+ wickets are the side bets.

  • Bangladesh won the first ODI by 86 runs after posting 284-8 and reducing Australia to 191-9.
  • Mustafizur Rahman took 2-24 from 5.2 overs and removed Marnus Labuschagne and Nathan Ellis.
  • Nathan Ellis was Australia's best bowler in the opener, taking 3-38 from 10 overs including a maiden.
  • Nahid Rana has taken 31 wickets in nine matches in 2026, the most by any fast bowler this year.
  • Bangladesh have won their past three ODI series and lead this series 1-0.

Head to Head

Australia still hold a commanding overall advantage in this matchup, but Bangladesh have seized control of the current series.

The Tigers produced one of their most complete ODI performances against Australia in years, winning the opening match by 86 runs to move within one victory of a historic series triumph.

Bangladesh Form Analysis

Bangladesh enter the second ODI with momentum firmly on their side. Their 284-8 in the opener was built on contributions throughout the batting order, with Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mosaddek Hossain all producing significant scores.

Mosaddek's return to international cricket continues to pay dividends. His unbeaten 86 from 70 balls transformed the innings before he backed it up with two wickets during Australia's chase.

The bowling attack was equally impressive. Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed struck early before Nahid Rana's pace proved too much for Australia's middle and lower order. Bangladesh have now won four of their past five completed matches.

Australia Form Analysis

Australia's problems with the bat continued in the first ODI. The top order collapsed to 51-3 before slipping to 140-8 as Bangladesh's pace attack exposed a fragile batting unit.

Alex Carey fought hard with 47 while Cameron Green carried the innings with an unbeaten 52, but Australia never seriously threatened the target. The visitors were outplayed in all facets and will need a substantial improvement to level the series.

There were positives with the ball. Nathan Ellis claimed 3-38 and consistently troubled Bangladesh's batters, while Matt Renshaw's part-time spin delivered two wickets. Australia are unlikely to make sweeping changes, placing pressure on the current XI to respond.

Bangladesh Squad

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (c), Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Mosaddek Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana.

Bangladesh are expected to retain the same XI after their dominant opening victory. The pace trio of Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana were outstanding in the first ODI and remain the foundation of the side.

Australia Squad

Josh Inglis (c), Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Todd Murphy, Oliver Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Liam Scott, Matt Short, Adam Zampa.

Australia may consider changes after the heavy defeat, with Todd Murphy, Matthew Kuhnemann and Ben Dwarshuis all available. Nathan Ellis strengthened his position with an excellent performance in the opener and remains one of Australia's key weapons.
