There’s plenty to like about the filly who broke through for her first win at Kembla Grange three starts back.

Charlina came home nearly three lengths clear of her nearest pursuer when racing third-up on that occasion.

Racing over 1000m on a Soft 5 track, the filly overcame losing a near-hind plate during the race to justify $2.20 favouritism after settling close to the speed.

That success came after dropping back from metro company, having previously finished a solid third in a maiden over the same distance at Randwick Kensington.

The daughter of Flying Artie has since proven competitive against winners and, with an inside barrier and Olivia Chambers’ 2kg claim, she looks well placed to salute.

Highlander Central Coast 18-19 Apr Provincial Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Newcastle Best Bet - Race 4 No. 3 Erin Jo

The New Zealand-bred performed well at metro level during her first preparation, including a third-place finish at Randwick Kensington on debut in early December.

Racing over 1300m, Erin Jo was beaten just under one-and-a-half lengths that day and encountered traffic when finishing seventh on the main Randwick track next time.

The daughter of I Am Invincible put that unplaced effort behind her when breaking through for her maiden win over 1400m at Warwick Farm in early January.

She scored narrowly after settling closer to the pace from near the rail, with the form out of that race subsequently holding up well.

Kris Lees’ filly has drawn a favourable barrier and, with improvement through her recent trials, she looks primed to return with a winning performance under Jason Collett.

Racing NSW Provincial-Midway Championship Wildcard Tips (Race 7)

Newcastle Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 9 Miss Spacegirl

The mare has been in strong form this preparation, highlighted by a winning return at Canterbury in November.

Racing over 1250m on a Good 4 surface, Miss Spacegirl accounted for seven rivals in a Benchmark 72 handicap.

After a subsequent defeat at the same venue, the four-year-old returned to winning form on a Soft 5 track at Randwick in early January over 1400m.

She has since produced three solid efforts in defeat over the same distance, including a close fourth on a Heavy 8 track at Warwick Farm earlier this month.

With a return to firmer ground expected and blinkers applied for the first time, the Freedman-trained mare looks well placed to bounce back.

Newcastle Value Bet - Race 8 No. 7 Bondi Blossom

The daughter of Bondi broke through for her maiden win at Gosford in November following a series of consistent efforts.

The three-year-old overcame an awkward start to settle midfield before finishing strongly to score over 1600m.

She was subsequently spelled and returned with a pair of quiet Warwick Farm trials ahead of her first-up assignment.

That return saw Bondi Blossom finish second at Benchmark 64 level at this track earlier this month, beaten just under one-and-a-half lengths after tracking the speed.

With the extra 100m expected to suit and improvement likely second-up, she appeals as a value chance despite a tricky barrier.
