Overpass (barrier 11) has been freshened up following a disappointing second-up performance in The Everest, which he arrived to after a solid return in the Group 2 Shorts, where Private Eye got the better of him late.

The Bjorn Baker-trained sprinter is no stranger to Perth, with the son of Vancouver taking out the inaugural running of The Quokka back in April and that $4 million feature is also contested over the Ascot 1200m.

Triple Missile (barrier 1) returns to the west after eight runs in Victoria for trainer Lindsey Smith, who prepared Glory Hunter to win the 2007 Winterbottom Stakes.

A talented six-year-old with a big turn-of-foot, Triple Missile has won four races at Ascot and he bettered the times of the 2021 Winterbottom Stakes when saluting over this track/trip two years ago.

Damien Oliver will ride the gelding in what will be one of the champion jockey's last Group 1 engagements before retirement.

Ripcord (barrier 7) caught the eye with a brilliant last-start victory in the Listed Placid Ark Stakes on November 18, where he reeled in Oscar's Fortune (barrier 13), a galloper who was unbeaten from four outings before that clash.

That pair make up the three-year-old representation in the 2023 Winterbottom Stakes and recent history is against the youngsters, with Hardrada the last three-year-old to win in this feature back in 2002.

Veteran sprinter Savatoxl (barrier 8) is among the acceptances, with the 2021 Goodwood Handicap winner aiming for a sixth stakes victory via what is a first-up tilt at the Winterbottom Stakes.

Prepared by Alice Springs trainer Will Savage, the eight-year-old passed the $1 million mark in prizemoney when taking out the Group 3 DC McKay Stakes at Morphettville in May.

The visitors have a terrific recent record in the Winterbottom Stakes, with 10 of the last 15 winners being interstate raiders.

Chris & Michael Gangemi have accepted with Phanta (barrier 17), Clemenceau (barrier 14) and Go Forward (barrier 6), while the in-form Neville Parnham stable has dual representation via Snowdome (barrier 18) and Flying Missile (barrier 3).

16 runners (plus two emergencies) make up the final field for the 2023 Winterbottom Stakes.

Winterbottom Stakes Winners

The Winterbottom Stakes is Perth's major sprint race, a WFA Group 1 run over 1200m at Ascot Racecourse.

Worth $1.5 million, the Winterbottom Staks is one of three Group 1 races contested over three weekends in Perth and it helps form a main part of the new Pinnacles series.

After boosting its prize pool to seven figures, this race has seen horses from all around Australia come and compete with Voodoo Lad, Viddora and Buffering all winning from invading states, while past champions in Takeover Target and Ortensia have also travelled and saluted in this feature.

Elite Street (2020), Graceful Girl (2021) and Paulele (2022) have won the last three editions of the Winterbottom Stakes.
