Toorak Handicap 2025 Betting Odds - Sepals Favoured for Back-to-Back Group 1 Wins
The 2025 Toorak Handicap at Caulfield is shaping up as a competitive Group 1 mile feature, with Sepals leading the betting at $4 after a stellar early-season record. Other key contenders include Evaporate, fresh off a Sandown Stakes win, and Queensland's Transatlantic. Established as a major spring race since 1881, the Toorak regularly highlights elite milers, with recent winners like Antino and Tuvalu. Punters should monitor form, especially among horses with proven 1600m capabilities, as the event is a marker for both domestic and international racing success.

After dominating a BM100 first-up, the four-year-old added the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes on September 20 and now steps to 1600m for the Toorak Handicap, where he is the $3.60 favourite with Neds
Evaporate ($5.50) atoned with a second-up victory in the Sandown Stakes and, with three prior wins at a mile, the step to 1600m will hold no fears.
He improved with racing in both campaigns last season, suggesting there is more to come this spring.
Lazzura ($5.50) has won both starts this campaign, producing fast closing splits first-up before hanging on for a narrow Flemington victory second-up.
Queensland visitor Transatlantic ($6) has finished runner-up in both Melbourne runs this preparation, most recently when narrowly beaten by Evaporate in the Sandown Stakes.
Leica Lucy ($7) caught the eye first-up when getting home for fourth in the Let’s Elope Stakes won by Lazzura, and stepping up to 1600m is a positive for the New Zealand Oaks winner.
Feroce ($9) is progressing well, following a sixth first-up with a third in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
He also boasts strong credentials at the mile, having won the Australian Guineas in his last attempt at 1600m.

Toorak Handicap Winners
The Toorak Handicap is one of Australia’s most prestigious mile handicaps and has been a permanent fixture on the Caulfield calendar since its first running in 1881, when it was won by Josephine. Run over 1600m, the race has long been a spring highlight and an important target for high-class milers.
Throughout its history, the Toorak has attracted some of the nation’s best gallopers. The likes of The Trump, Gunsynd, More Joyous and Typhoon Tracy all feature on an honour roll that blends star milers, versatile weight-for-age performers and emerging middle-distance talent.
The race was elevated to Group 1 status in 1979, as part of the introduction of the Group classification system in Australia, and has since remained one of the benchmark handicaps on the calendar. It often serves as a pointer to later spring features, with runners progressing to the Cantala Stakes (Champions Mile) or even the Cox Plate.
The Toorak Handicap has developed a reputation for producing high-quality winners capable of excelling both domestically and abroad. Its large fields, handicap conditions and 1600m trip have combined to make it one of the more competitive Group 1's of the Melbourne spring.
The last three editions have been won by Tuvalu (2022), Attrition (2023) and Antino (2024).
