2025 Thousand Guineas Best Bet - Apocalyptic

The only real query is how she’ll handle going the Melbourne way for the first time and the travel down from Sydney, which isn’t always straightforward for a younger horse.

Apocalyptic has been the standout early-season three-year-old filly of her crop, stringing together a hat-trick of wins to open the campaign in Sydney, capped by a dominant last-start victory in the Group 1 Flight Stakes.

Her versatility has been a feature — she produced a sharp turn-of-foot off a quieter ride first-up, covered ground when winning second-up, and then sat outside the speed before scoring comfortably last time.

We’ll now see the Sydney and Melbourne form lines clash at 1600m, and while she may not have beaten much yet, Apocalyptic remains the clear starting point for this field.

2025 Thousand Guineas Next Best Bet - Getta Good Feeling

Couldn’t salute in three maiden attempts, albeit placed in all of those runs, and the breakthrough came in emphatic fashion at Group 2 level when taking out the Edward Manifold Stakes last start.

It was a far better win than the margin suggests, with Getta Good Feeling badly held-up before forcing clear at the 150m and grabbing Just A Journey late — a fair form reference going into this.

Stepping to a mile appeared the key to that improvement, and the penny is starting to drop for a filly who is bred to furnish with more racing.

With winning form at the right time, a soft draw, and as one of only two runners proven at the mile, she ticks plenty of boxes.

2025 Thousand Guineas Value Bet - Mating Call

Her debut triumph at Balaklava warranted a shot at Melbourne’s early three-year-old fillies features, as Mating Call showed above-average ability when overcoming trouble in that win.

She still hasn’t drawn a gate, with another wide alley here in her fourth career start, but the South Australian filly has been building nicely through her preparation.

After working throughout but sticking on well for a midfield finish in the Thousand Guineas Prelude, she followed that with a brave third in the Edward Manifold Stakes.

Perhaps this comes a touch soon, given she’s deep into her first campaign off a series of tough runs, but she clearly has her share of class and is capable of running another bold race.
