2026 Memsie Stakes Best Bet - Cosmic Crusader
This shapes as a very competitive edition of the Memsie Stakes and a case can be made for most, but Cosmic Crusader looks the safest option given he arrives hard-fit, in form and unbeaten at Caulfield.
He maintained that perfect track record when winning the P.B. Lawrence Stakes, coming from off the speed in a race otherwise dominated by those racing on pace.
Cosmic Crusader is also unbeaten on Soft tracks, another tick if there is any give in the Caulfield surface, while his versatility has been a feature throughout this preparation.
The main query is staying at 1400m as he looks to be tracking towards longer trips, but he is flying and has shown enough tactical versatility to remain effective at this journey.
The wide draw may not be the worst place to be by this stage of the Caulfield program either, and with a fitness edge on his rivals, Cosmic Crusader gets the nod in an open Memsie Stakes.
2026 Memsie Stakes Next Best Bet - Angel Capital
Angel Capital is becoming something of a villain for punters, but this could well be the target race with a run now under his belt and a return to his preferred Caulfield 1400m.
His Missile Stakes return over 1200m effectively served as a trial for this, recording the second-fastest final 200m of the August 8 Randwick program.
There were also genuine excuses at his previous 1400m attempt in the All Aged Stakes, where he was held up and never got a clear opportunity to build momentum before heading for a spell.
Second-up last spring, Angel Capital was unlucky not to win the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over the same track and trip, before dropping to 1200m and recording the fastest closing sectionals of The Everest.
Ben Melham gets back aboard the quirky entire and has ridden him in three of his five career wins, including his past two victories over the Caulfield 1400m.
2026 Memsie Stakes Value Bet - Buckaroo
The eight-year-old could well attract support at longer odds, particularly given his strong Caulfield record and proven ability to perform fresh over 1400m.
