Spelled after becoming just the 13th horse in history to complete the prestigious Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup double in 2025, Half Yours resumed in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick on April 18.

While 1400m proved too sharp for the five-year-old in that return, his work past the line was encouraging, and while well held in fourth when contesting the Hollindale Stakes second-up, that 1800m effort was still a pass mark with improvement to come.

At $3 with Ladbrokes, Half Yours leads the 2026 Doomben Cup market.

Birdman is racing consistently, with back-to-back Group 2 victories in Melbourne before a fifth-place finish when well supported in the Australian Cup, and after a freshen-up, the gelding was runner-up in the Hollindale Stakes.

He shares a $5 quote with Pride Of Jenni, who led throughout when successful in the Hollindale Stakes, while her last Group 1 attempt over this distance resulted in a narrow Australian Cup defeat on March 28.

The exciting front-runner is aiming for a fifth Group 1 victory in the 2026 Doomben Cup, and one of her previous elite-level wins was recorded over this trip.

She's A Hustler ($6) caught the eye first-up when fourth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes, while a third in the Hollindale Stakes followed, and getting to 2000m should suit the mare third-up.

Rounding out the single-figure hopes is Vauban ($7), who has been freshened-up since a third in the Group 1 Tancred Stakes, and the eight-year-old was a first-up winner over this distance on March 14.

Doomben Cup Winners

The Doomben Cup was first run in 1933 and has developed into one of Queensland’s premier weight-for-age staying features.

Contested at Doomben, the race has attracted some of the sport’s elite performers over the decades, with champions such as Might And Power, Juggler and triple winner Rough Habit all featuring on the honour roll.

The race was run over 2200m for much of its history before being reduced to 2020m in 2007, and it has been contested over 2000m since 2012.

Huetor (2023), Bois D’Argent (2024) and Antino (2025) have won the past three editions of the Doomben Cup.
