The Cox Plate is Australia's most prestigious weight-for-age race, with this Group 1 contested over 2040m at Moonee Valley.

After traditionally being a locals race, this $5 million dollar feature has captured more international attention in recent years, with four of the last eleven winners being overseas visitors.
At $4.20 with Ladbrokes, Via Sistina heads the betting for the 2025 Cox Plate.

2025 Cox Plate Best Bet - Via Sistina
Via Sistina will be an eight-year-old should she line-up in the 2025 Cox Plate, although it's worth noting she's Northern Hemisphere bred (roughly five to seven months younger than most Aus/NZ bred horses).
Also, the Chris Waller-trained import is working towards peak performances in the Ranvet Stakes and Queen Elizabeth Stakes over the 2025 Sydney Autumn Carnival.
Via Sistina smashed Winx's Cox Plate record via her eight-length romp in the 2024 edition and Japanese visitor Prognosis (runner-up) did bring world class form lines to that clash.
She's still lightly raced for her age and should the daughter of Fastnet Rock justify short quotes for her upcoming Sydney assignments, then her Cox Plate quote could tighten.
2025 Cox Plate Next Best Bet - Buckaroo
It could be a very light autumn for Buckaroo, as he hasn't kicked off the campaign yet and Chris Waller could also be aiming the gelding towards the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
The six-year-old has impressed in two Sydney trials that were completed in February and March, so he appears to be ticking over well and he was gelded ahead of his last campaign.
Buckaroo has been very consistent since the ultimate gear change, with back-to-back wins before a narrow fourth-up defeat behind Via Sistina and he then contested the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.
He was unlucky in the Caulfield Cup and while Buckaroo had some excuses in the Melbourne Cup, he also didn't stay and WFA races around the 10-furlong range will likely be the aim.
2025 Cox Plate Value Bet - Treasurethe Moment
Four-year-old's have won eight of the last 15 Cox Plates and the rising star on the scene next spring could be Treasurethe Moment, a three-year-old filly who is building a terrific record.
The Matt Laurie-trained galloper has won her last six races (seven wins and two seconds overall from nine outings) and the VRC Oaks winner has improved this campaign.
Treasurethe Moment proved too classy via her 1400m resumption before recording a stylish win in a Group 2 Kewney Stakes that went more that 7.5-lengths faster than the All-Star Mile.
She'll likely head north for a Vinery en route to an Australian Oaks, where she could prove too good for the three-year-old fillies, but I suspect that middle-distances will be her sweet spot going forward.

Cox Plate Winners
The Cox Plate is without question the greatest two minutes in Australian racing, a 2040m weight-for-age contest run at the cauldron Moonee Valley.
Inaugurated in 1922 when Tangalooma took out the event, it’s a genuine who’s who of racing that’s taken this event out.
The champions list includes the likes of four-time winner Winx, three-time winner Kingston Town, star galloper Northerly and the inimitable Phar Lap.
Anamoe (2022), Romantic Warrior (2023) and Via Sistina (2024) have won the last three editions of The W.S. Cox Plate.
