The Black Caviar Lightning Stakes will be the first Group 1 of the 2026 calendar year in Australia, with the 1000m feature headlining the February 14 meeting at Flemington Racecourse.
At $2.50 with Unibet Australia, Tentyris is favourite for the 2026 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes, with the Godolphin colt impressing in his most recent spring appearance when a stylish winner of the Coolmore Stud Stakes.
While the three-year-old was accepted for the Champions Sprint seven days later, he became fractious at the barriers and was scratched as a result.
Giga Kick ($3.60) won that renewal of the Champions Sprint and, after a lean period the previous season following injury, has returned to form with two wins from as many spring runs.
Beiwacht ($6) was defeated four lengths by Tentyris in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, however he was a big winner of The Golden Rose prior, running fast time when beating a strong lineup.
Baraqiel ($7) and My Gladiola ($9) round out the single-figure chances in betting for the 2026 Black Caviar Lightning Stakes.

Black Caviar Lightning Stakes Winners
Held in mid-February, the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes is one of Melbourne’s premier 1000m sprint races and widely regarded as one of Australia’s elite short-course events.
Worth $1 million, the Lightning is one of two Group 1 sprints run at Flemington Racecourse during the autumn carnival, the other being the Newmarket Handicap.
Formerly known simply as the Lightning Stakes, the race was renamed in honour of the unbeaten champion Black Caviar after she claimed three consecutive victories between 2011 and 2013.
Recent winners of the Black Caviar Lightning Stakes include Coolangatta (2023), Imperatriz (2024), and Skybird (2025).
