The Sydney Swans, leading the ladder with an impressive 8-1 record, are strong favorites ahead of their Round 10 AFL 2026 clash against Collingwood Magpies. Collingwood faces challenges due to injuries to key players, including Darcy Moore, and a poor record against top teams. Sydney’s efficient scoring and versatile attack are likely to see them cover the margin, with key players like Isaac Heeney and Callum Mills primed for big performances. The expert prediction: Sydney should be too strong at the SCG.

Sydney Swans vs Collingwood Magpies, Round 10 2026 - Expert Prediction

Sydney will be far too strong for Collingwood when the two sides square off in Friday night footy.

The Swans come into this as the top ranked side and have picked up eight wins from their nine matches, while Collingwood have split their matches with four wins, four losses and a draw.

The Magpies are capable of turning this one into a grind, while recent history suggests the SCG affair will be close as the two sides have played out some thrillers in recent times.

But the concerns here are Collingwood’s form against the better sides- they have not won in any of their previous 10 matches against sides that made finals last season and come up a red-hot Swans outfit without their key defender, Darcy Moore, who went down with a concussion last weekend.

They have been vulnerable when their depth has been tested and (excluding the Dockers match in Gather Round on neutral ground) were well beaten in their only other match against interstate opposition this season by 52 points when taking on the Lions at the GABBA.

They were without Nick Daicos that night and we can expect Sydney to pay close attention to the prolific disposal winner via James Jordan. But the key difference here will be the Swans various avenues to goal, both in the air and at ground level.

Expect the home side to cover the 24.5 point margin with Isaac Heeney to produce some big numbers. Nick Blakey and Callum Mills will provide plenty of run from the back half.

  • Sydney are averaging 117 points per game this season
  • Collingwood will be without Darcy Moore and were outscored by 44 points after he went off against Geelong at half time last weekend.
  • Callum Mills has had 25+ disposals in four of his past five against Collingwood
  • Isaac Heeney has had 28+ disposals in each of his past three against the Pies

Head to Head Stats

The two sides last met in Gather Round last season in Adelaide, resulting in a 31-point win for Collingwood. The past 11 matches between the two sides have fallen in the 1-39 point margin with six of those decided by less than 10 points. Sydney have won the past four between the two sides at the SCG with the last two decided by three points and one point.

Notable player performances in the recent head to heads come from:
  • Nick Daicos (Pies)- averaging 32 disposals in his past three matches against the Swans
  • Callum Mills (Swans)- 25+ disposals in four of his past five against the Pies
  • Isaac Heeney (Swans)- 28+ disposals in each of his past three against the Pies

Sydney Swans Form Analysis

Sydney sit on top of the ladder with an 8-1 win-loss record after their eight-point win over North Melbourne. They have registered a number of big wins and sit with a healthy percentage of 157 but their last couple of rounds have been a bit tighter with a 17-point victory coming over Melbourne prior to their match against the Kangaroos.

A feature of their matches has been their high scoring and they have booted over 100 points in all but one of their matches this season, going at 117 points per game but in the last fortnight they have conceded 114 and 97. North Melbourne had more scoring shots last week in the 14.13.97 to 16.9.105 scoreline and more inside 50s (67-51) but it was Sydney’s efficiency that got them over the line.

Haydeny McLean, Logan McDonald and Isaac Heeney all booted three goals, with Heeney the standout with 24 disposals to complement his scoreboard impact. Nick Blakey provided run off half-back with 26 disposals and is one player the Magpies need to stop on Friday.

Collingwood Magpies Form Analysis

Collingwood come in with a 4–4-1 win/loss/draw record, plitting their Round 8 fixture against Hawthorn at 93 apiece before bombing out in the second half against Geelong, conceeding 11 goals to four to lose by 54 points.

They broke even in a number of statistical measures against the Cats and led the inside 50 count but lost their structure in the backline after their captain, Darcy Moore, suffered a concussion.

A concern heading into this match is Collingwood’s record against the better sides. They have not won a match against finalists from last year in their past 10 attempts but came close with the draw against Hawthorn a fortnight ago.

Positives in recent weeks have been the form of Dan McStay and Jordan de Goey. McStay kicked three goals against Sydney and has booted 2+ in five of his past seven, while de Goey had a team high 30 disposals against the Cats, his biggest return in two years. He kicked five goals in the two matches prior to the Geelong match. Nick Daicos had 29 disposals against Geelong, ending his run of seven straight matches of hitting 30 or more.
