Brisbane have barely finished celebrating their third consecutive premiership and already attention has turned to who can stop them in 2027.

The Lions completed an extraordinary three-peat with one of the great Grand Final comebacks, overturning a 17-point deficit inside the final five minutes to beat Fremantle 96-89 at the MCG.
Despite that historic achievement, Brisbane aren't favourites to make it four in a row.
Beaten Grand Finalists Fremantle have opened as the $5.50 favourites for the 2027 AFL Premiership, narrowly ahead of Brisbane at $6.00 and Hawthorn at $6.50.

2027 AFL Premiership Favourite: Fremantle - $5.50
It isn't difficult to understand why Fremantle sit at the top of the opening market.
The Dockers were agonisingly close to winning their first premiership in 2026. They led Brisbane by 17 points with less than five minutes remaining in the Grand Final before conceding four unanswered goals. Fremantle now have to respond to that heartbreak, but their 2026 season showed they have a list capable of going all the way.
At $5.50, the market expects them to be right there again.
Can Brisbane Win Four Straight? - $6.00
At what point do we simply stop betting against Brisbane? The Lions have now won the 2024, 2025 and 2026 premierships and have appeared in four consecutive Grand Finals.
Their latest might have been the most remarkable of the lot. Brisbane looked beaten late against Fremantle before producing four goals in the closing minutes, including two from Logan Morris in the final minute, to somehow steal another premiership.
Will Ashcroft was also enormous on Grand Final day with 31 disposals, including 12 in the final quarter.
The Lions are $6.00 to become the first team of the AFL era to win four consecutive premierships.
Hawthorn - $6.50
Hawthorn round out a clear top three in the opening market at $6.50. The Hawks came within touching distance of Brisbane in the 2026 Preliminary Final and enter another season firmly inside the premiership window.
At almost identical odds to Brisbane, however, punters are being asked to decide whether Hawthorn's upside is worth backing over a Lions side that has now delivered three years running.
Geelong & Western Bulldogs - $11.00
There is then a significant jump to Geelong and the Western Bulldogs, both at $11. That price range could become interesting as we move through the off-season.
Rather than paying around $6 for one of the three favourites, both clubs offer almost double-digit odds while coming off finals campaigns in 2026.
Early 2027 AFL Premiership Betting Pick
Brisbane Lions - $6.00
Fremantle deserve to be among the favourites after the season they produced, but it's difficult to overlook Brisbane at a slightly bigger price.
Three consecutive premierships, four consecutive Grand Finals and another generation of young talent already influencing the biggest games of the season makes $6.00 an interesting opening price.
There is a long way to go before the 2027 AFL season begins, and plenty can change through the trade period, draft and pre-season.
For now, Brisbane remain the benchmark everyone else is trying to catch.
