Nick Daicos produced the greatest Brownlow Medal count we've ever seen in 2026, now the question is whether he can do it again.

The Collingwood superstar polled an AFL/VFL record 47 votes to claim his first Brownlow, smashing the previous record of 45 set by Patrick Cripps in 2024. Daicos polled 13 best-on-ground performances and finished 11 votes clear of Bailey Smith in second.
Bookmakers certainly aren't expecting him to disappear with the young gun opening as the dominant $4.00 favourite for the 2027 Brownlow Medal, but at that price we're happy to look elsewhere.

2027 Brownlow Favourite: Nick Daicos - $4.00
There's no arguing with what Nick Daicos did in 2026, his 47 votes weren't just enough to win the Brownlow, they established a new record. Daicos polled in 18 of his 22 matches and recorded six consecutive three-vote games between Rounds 15 and 20.
But that's also what makes $4 difficult to take because Daicos doesn't simply need to be one of the competition's best players again. At that price, punters need almost everything to go right for an entire season.
After such an extraordinary 2026 count, we're looking further down the market for our early bets.
Early Brownlow Pick: Will Ashcroft - $13.00
Will Ashcroft continues to establish himself as one of the AFL's elite young midfielders and enters 2027 at $13.
His ability to produce on the biggest stage was on display again in the Grand Final, finishing with 31 disposals as Brisbane completed their incredible comeback against Fremantle.
Playing in one of the competition's best teams gives Ashcroft every opportunity to accumulate votes, and another step forward in 2027 could put him firmly in the Brownlow conversation and at $13, we're interested.
Best Early Value: Marcus Bontempelli - $15.00
This is the price that immediately jumps off the page because Marcus Bontempelli finished third in the 2026 Brownlow with 34 votes, behind only Daicos and Bailey Smith.
He has been among the AFL's premier players for years and remains one of the most influential midfielders in the competition yet he's available at $15.
Compare that with Daicos at $4 and Bailey Smith at $10 and the Bontempelli price looks particularly appealing this far out. If he stays healthy and the Bulldogs have another strong season, he should once again be capable of polling heavily.
Early Roughie: Zak Butters - $21.00
Zak Butters is the other price we're keeping a close eye on. Butters finished the 2026 count with 26 votes despite an interrupted season, demonstrating once again how strongly he can poll when he's on the park.
At his best, he has the game to attract three votes rather than simply accumulating ones and twos but the obvious requirement is health. If Butters can put together a full season, $21 looks like a very different proposition.
