Second seed Iga Swiatek will be targeting another swift victory when she comes up against Eva Lys in the third round of the Canada Open in Montreal on Friday.

Swiatek has been in swashbuckling form over the last month or so and she's expected to deliver another one-sided performance against a player she's absolutely dominated in the past. After winning the Wimbledon title for the loss of just two games in the semi-finals and final combined, Swiatek dropped just four games in her Montreal opener as she aims for a maiden Canada Open title this week.

Meanwhile, Lys will be confident having secured her first top 30 win of the year after beating Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in her previous round. However, this is just a terrible matchup for the German - she's only been able to win three total games in two previous meetings. Lys simply doesn't have the firepower or weapons to cause Swiatek any issues whatsoever. Backing the Pole to cover a -6.5 games line in victory.

Swiatek leads 2-0 and both wins have been ridiculously one-sided. Swiatek was a 6-1 6-1 winner in the R16 of Stuttgart in 2022 before racing away with a 6-0 6-1 win in the R16 of the Australian Open earlier this season.

Swiatek heads into this encounter with a 43-11 record on the season and back to some of her best tennis after a difficult last 12 months.

Indeed, Swiatek went over a year without claiming a title of any description, but she snapped her drought in the best way possible by capturing her maiden Wimbledon title last month.

It was the manner in which Swiatek closed out the Championships, swatting aside Belinda Bencic 6-2 6-0 in the semi-finals before delivering a double bagel, 6-0 6-0, demolition of Amanda Anisimova in the final.

Hoping to keep that momentum rolling into the US Open, Swiatek was untroubled in her return in Montreal, easing past qualifier Guo Hanyu 6-3, 6-1.

That result means Swiatek has won 63rd consecutive WTA opening matches - a feat that hasn't been achieved since Monica Seles won 64 straight between 1990-96.

Eva Lys Form

Lys has registered a solid 20-17 record at all levels throughout the season and comes into this clash ranked No. 69 in the world.

The German's best result of 2025 came at the start of the season when she made the fourth round of the Australian Open as a lucky loser - before running into Swiatek.

Lys has struggled to replicate that sort of tennis throughout the course of the year, but she's having a great tournament in her Canada Open debut this week.

Indeed, Lys hasn't dropped a set in reaching the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament, toppling Leolia Jeanjean 6-1 6-4 in her opening match before knocking out Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3 6-4 for her first top 30 scalp of the year.
