Wimbledon Day 1 Tips, Predictions & Best Bets

It's Day 1 of Wimbledon and while there's some big guns on show, I prefer to look elsewhere for some value and our best bets for Monday June 29 can be seen below.

MatchBest BetOdds / Bookmaker
Dino Prizmic vs Adam WaltonPrizmic Win$1.70 @ Elitebet
Learner Tien vs Dalibor SvrcinaTien 3-0$1.80 @ Unibet
Mananchaya Sawangkaew vs Maja ChwalińskaSawangkaew Win$2.02 @ NextBet
Rafael Jódar vs Felix GillOver 34.5 Games$1.70 @ PickleBet
Solana Sierra vs Anna BondárSierra -2.5 Games$1.75 @ TeamBet
Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro vs Anastasia PotapovaBouzas Maneiro Win$2.15 @ Dabble
Arthur Rinderknech vs Oliver TarvetOver 39.5 Games$1.82 @ OnlyBets
Ethan Quinn vs Luciano DarderiQuinn Win$1.65 @ Ladbrokes

You can find our reasoning for each bet below.

Prizmic vs Walton Tips

  • Prizmic should be the bigger favourite in my eyes, but hasn't played much on grass - I don't think that will be too much of a factor here
  • Prizmic is 11-9 at tour-level this season, while Walton is 6-12 and a Challenger level player for the most part - the rising Croatian should have too much firepower
  • Prizmic has won 14 of his last 19 matches at all levels

Tien vs Svrcina Tips

  • Svrcina hasn't played a lead-in match on grass & is 2-4 lifetime on the surface - he's a novice on the lawns
  • Svrcina is 0-5 vs top 20 players and lost all five of those matches in straight sets
  • Tien has won 15 of his last 16 matches vs players outside the top 100, with the only defeat coming vs Jodar, who is now a top 30 player

Sawangkaew vs Chwalinska Tips

  • This is all about fading Chwalinska, who is coming off her whirlwind run to the French Open final from qualifying and is due a letdown
  • Chwalinska hasn't played a pro tournament since Roland Garros and it's a huge ask for her to transition to grass as a seeded player
  • Sawangkaew has runs on the board with three wins in Wimbledon qualifying and absolutely nothing to lose here - great opportunity to take advantage of this spot

Jodar vs Gill Tips

  • Jodar hasn't played since the French Open and his busy clay swing and is set to play his first ever pro match on grass here
  • Gill will have the home crowd support and will be determined for a good showing to justify his wildcard
  • We've seen Jodar go walkabout and have concentration lapses in the five-set format - he went the distance with Carreno Busta & Michelsen at Roland Garros and also lost a set to Duckworth
  • Think there's a good chance Gill can catch Jodar cold in at least one set and push this Over 34.5 games

Sierra vs Bondar Tips

  • Again, all about fading Bondar on this surface - the Hungarian has a 0-6 record in tour-level main draw matches on grass
  • Sierra made the fourth round of Wimbledon last year & is in decent form, winning 12 matches in her last six tournaments
  • Sierra was an easy 6-4 6-2 winner over Bondar on clay last year, which is a better surface for the latter, so I'm expecting a similar result on the lawns

Bouzas Maneiro vs Potapova Tips

  • Potapova had an excellent clay swing, going 17-4, but she's lost momentum on the lawns
  • Indeed, Potapova has been forced to retire from both lead-in tournaments due to illness, while she's also has a negative 2-3 record at Wimbledon
  • Bouzas Maneiro is a solid player - she beat Gauff at the start of the year & pushed Sabalenka at Roland Garros
  • The Spaniard made the quarter-finals of Nottingham recently and can take advantage of Potapova's fitness issues here

Rinderknech vs Tarvet Tips

  • Tarvet is back in the Wimbledon main draw, qualifying for the second year in a row & has a solid 11-5 record on grass
  • It took Alcaraz to stop the Brit in the second round last year & I think he can give another good account of himself here
  • Rinderknech has a huge serve, but isn't great on return - we could see some long sets and multiple tiebreaks here
  • Rinderknech has seen 1+ tiebreak in his last five matches on grass and if the pair split sets, Over 39.5 total games should hit

Quinn vs Darderi Tips

  • Darderi has lost momentum lately - he stumbled at the French Open as a dark horse, losing in the second round to Comesana
  • The Italian has had fitness issues, needing a medical time out in a second round loss at Mallorca
  • Darderi also lost both warm-up matches on grass at Hurlington to Tien & Tsitsipas
  • Meanwhile, Quinn has been rising nicely all season & is coming off a runner-up showing in Mallorca
  • The American also beat Khachanov to make the second round of Halle, only losing to eventual champion Shelton in three tight sets
  • Quinn is in superior form and playing the best tennis of his career right now - deserves favouritism against this current version of Darderi

Wimbledon Day 1 Multi

  • Norrie vs Zheng: Norrie Win @ $1.60
  • Kwon vs Landaluce: Kwon Win A Set @ $1.25

  • Sinner vs Kecmanovic: Sinner 3-0 @ $1.33
