Taylor Fritz, World No. 4, faces Fabian Marozsan in the Shanghai Masters after a grueling Tokyo final and injury concerns. Fritz's recent matches raise fitness questions, while Marozsan is coming off strong performances and boasts a top record against elite opponents at Masters 1000 events. With Marozsan's prior Shanghai success and Fritz potentially not at full strength, this encounter could be closer than rankings suggest. Fans can watch the match live on Unibet, noting betting and geo-restriction conditions.

Taylor Fritz vs Fabian Marozsan Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

World No. 4 Taylor Fritz launches his Shanghai Masters campaign on Friday night when he comes up against the dangerous Fabian Marozsan.

Fritz is coming off a runner-up appearance in Tokyo against Carlos Alcaraz earlier this week and now has a short turnaround to get ready for Shanghai. The American had his leg strapped in that final and looked visibly hindered throughout the contest. Fritz already had a quick turnaround in Tokyo after competing in Laver Cup the previous weekend. He's played a lot of tennis lately and you've got to question if he's at full fitness heading into Shanghai, where he may feel the pressure to defend his semi-final points from last year.

This is a great opportunity for Marozsan to register what would be a seventh top 10 victory. The Hungarian has an outstanding record against the elite at Masters 1000 level, winning five of his seven such matches, while he also made the quarter-finals in his only previous appearance in Shanghai in 2023, beating Casper Ruud and Alex de Minaur along the way. After pushing Jannik Sinner last week in Beijing, I think Marozsan can make life very difficult for Fritz on these fast Shanghai courts.

Head To Head

Fritz leads 1-0, prevailing 3-6 6-4 6-2 6-2 in the third round of the 2024 Australian Open.

Fritz has registered a 47-18 record on the season heading into this contest, with the bulk of those victories coming since the grass swing.

Indeed, Fritz has won 30 of his last 37 matches, capturing those two grass titles in Stuttgart and Eastbourne before making the Wimbledon semi-finals.

It was a relatively disappointing summer for Fritz at home - he lost early in Cincinnati to qualifier Terence Atmane before going down to veteran Novak Djokovic in the US Open quarter-finals, where he was defending runner-up points from last year.

After being part of the victorious Team World side in Laver Cup, Fritz battled through niggling injury issues to make the final of the ATP 500 event in Tokyo, but he was no match for Carlos Alcaraz in Tuesday night's final, going down in straight sets.

Fabian Marozsan Form

It's been a career-best season for Marozsan in terms of match wins - he's compiled a 24-23 record and will be hoping for another deep run in Shanghai this tournament.

Marozsan put together one of the best weeks of his career in Shanghai two years ago, defeating Alex de Minaur and Casper Ruud before falling in three sets to Hubert Hurkcacz in the quarter-finals.

The Hungarian's best result on tour this season was a semi-final finish at the ATP 500 tournament in Munich.

Marozsan was on a three-match losing run before arriving in Beijing last week, but he made a nice run to the quarter-finals and served for the second set before going down 6-1 7-5 to Sinner. Marozsan got his Shanghai campaign up and running earlier in the week with a three-set victory over veteran Stan Wawrinka.

Verdict

Fritz was far from his best in Tokyo last week and now he has a short turnaround after playing in that final on Tuesday night.

Marozsan has a stellar record vs top 10 players at Masters 1000 level and I'm happy to back him as the underdog given the circumstances.
